Chill.” Anyway, that was a reality check for me and I have now come to accept the fact that I am what many people would call “high-maintenance,” especially when it comes to my body care routine. If you aren’t on TikTok or your For You page doesn’t show you multi-step beauty routines on a constant loop, let me explain the latest trend on the app: the Everything Shower. On TikTok, people are sharing their extensive shower routines which include a pre-shower, shower, and post-shower phase. The Everything Shower isn’t your typical everyday shower (even though I've never been a wash-and-go kind of girl); it goes beyond the basics and includes everything from a full-body shave to deep conditioning masks. Usually, people do the Everything Shower as a once-a-week, an at-home spa day, a pre-date ritual, or as prep for an important event like an interview.; it’s basically like giving your body a nice, soothing deep clean.

There isn’t just one way to do an Everything Shower but considering the fact that I’ve been doing them for years, I’m going to break down exactly how I become clean, hairless, and smooth as a marine mammal, below. PS—I usually wash my hair about once a week on a different day so below is my version of the Everything Shower which solely focuses on my body and face. Feel free to add in your own steps and make it your own.
How to Take an ‘Everything Shower’
Pre-Shower:
Before you start any pre-shower prep, it’s crucial to set the scene. If you don’t have one already, I suggest buying a filtered shower head—I know, it sounds a little bougie, but it removes all the mineral buildup that comes out of a regular shower head. Plus, I swear it makes my hair and skin feel softer. I usually flick a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil onto my shower walls, so once my shower reaches peak steam, fresh notes fill the space and lull me into a tranquil state. Then it’s time to dry brush, which is basically a pre-shower scrub where you take a dense brush to polish your body and get rid of any dead skin.
Shower:
Now it’s time for the main event, the moment we’ve all been waiting for. After cleansing my face in the shower, I apply an exfoliating mask to my face. While the mask works its magic, I take an exfoliating bar and scrub everything dead and dying off of my body. (Don’t forget to scrub your feet.) Once I’ve buffed my body to be as smooth as a dolphin, I take my time and lather up. I’m incredibly particular about scent and my fragrance routine starts in the shower. I usually use a lightly-scented body wash—something that isn’t too overpowering but still lingers on my skin after I turn the shower off. I’ll take a moment to enjoy how warm and cuddly and happy I am underneath the shower head before I shave my legs and underarms.
Post-Shower:
Once I’ve hopped out of my DIY sauna, I’ll gently pat off the excess water with a towel then I’ll do my skincare routine. While my skin is still damp, I’ll apply a whipped body cream before locking in all the moisture with a lightweight body oil that won’t stain my sheets or ruin my jeans. Now that my skin feels plush to the touch and beyond glowy–voila! That’s my Everything Shower! Welcome to your new life as a well-moisturized baby seal.
