Alexis Bittar, a Brooklyn native, started designing costume jewelry out of lucite in 1990 at the age of 22—these were his jewelry beginnings. In 1992, he was discovered by Dawn Mello, the fashion director of Bergdorf Goodman at the time, in 1998 he designed Burberry's first ready-to-wear jewelry collection, in 2002 he collaborated with stylist and costume designer Patricia Field on custom pieces for "Sex and the City," and in 2010 he received CFDA's 'Accessory Designer of the Year' award.
