The statement necklace has and will forever be an iconic, important, and outfit-transforming accessory on red carpets—during her fashion forward "Wuthering Heights" press tour, Margot Robbie wore what is arguably the statement necklace to end all statement necklaces that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor, and just last night Odessa A'zion completed her BAFTA red carpet look with a silver statement choker dripping with diamonds that emulated water, for example.

In Ancient Egypt, wide collars made of gold wore worn for protection, in the 1920s elaborate beaded necklaces were all the rage, in the 50s and 60s movie stars wore decadent, choker-like necklaces (Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast At Tiffany's, for example), the '70s saw the rise of chunky, colorful plastic necklaces, and maximalist necklace layering was trendy in the '80s and '90s. This is all to say that the statement necklace has been continuously popular—how exactly the statement is made is the thing that evolves.

Now, the red carpet and the statement necklace go hand-in-hand. This Fall/Winter 2026 season, though, a strong case is being made for the statement necklace as everyday wear. This isn't to say that this is a brand new trend—rather, we see it as a gentle reminder to stock up and keep the statement necklace in mind while considering how to transform our spring, fall, and winter accessory rotations.

With London in the limelight, New York Fashion Week is slowly fading in the rearview mirror, but some runways, some collections, and some accessories (statement necklaces in particular, of course) remain on my mind clearer as ever—and it all began with the fish fixation at Tory Burch. At the Fall/Winter 2026 show, models walked the runway in long chain necklaces with oversized fish pendants, adding a casual element to elevated looks. Over at Ralph Lauren, silver three column looked liked like, and presumably based off of how I would feel wearing it, served as armor. At LaQuan Smith, a button down shirt was worn almost entirely unbuttoned, revealing the perfect canvas for a black and emerald green necklace with an oversized pendant to be displayed like a work of art. This is just to name a few spotted throughout NYFW—statement necklaces were literally present from Midtown to Brooklyn to boats in the case of Kim Shui.

We know that things move so fast during fashion month and that the location of the moment changes in (less than) a week. While London Fashion Week might now be officially over, the trends spotted are still the topic of conversation—for us, statement necklaces certainly being one of them. At Sinead Gorey's show, oversized jewels hung from thick, chunky metal. Over at Paul Costelloe, the jewelry in collaboration PK Bijoux was decadent, vintage-inspired, and made out of medals, chains, buckles, and more—the necklaces, in particular, stealing the show and making the biggest of statements.
