Long before clean beauty was a buzzword in makeup and skin care, makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift was researching the dangers of toxic chemicals in her products. Fast-forward ten years, and her brand, RMS Beauty, is creating some of the most beloved organic color cosmetics in the industry (and you’ll spot them in many a makeup fiend’s bathroom cabinet, as well). So when we got wind that she was set to release a foundation similar to her cult-favorite “Un” Cover-Up Concealer, we could barely contain our excitement.
The “Un” Cover-Up Cream Foundation offers the same dewy finish we all know and love from its sister product, but with more high-coverage impact. It’s formulated with the brand’s signature cold centrifuged coconut oil (a hero ingredient for many of Swift’s products), plus a blend of herbs and oils to help with skin hydration, tone, and texture. Similar to the concealer, there are 16 available shades, and the creamy formula is packaged in a one-ounce glass jar.
To apply, we prefer to use the provided spatula to scoop out the foundation and place a pea-sized dot wherever we desire some coverage. Then blend out with your hands to warm up the formula and help it melt into your skin (a sponge also comes in handy for working it around your nose). We like to wait a few minutes after our moisturizer and sunscreen has dried so the creamy formula won’t slip. And if you want a less overall dew factor, a quick swipe of powder across your nose and chin sets everything beautifully for a demi-matte finish.
Thanks to the added jojoba oil, our skin felt deeply hydrated throughout the day, while turmeric, ashwagandha, and sarsaparilla provide anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial benefits. Buriti oil, one of the richest sources of beta-carotene, is chock-full of fatty acids and vitamin A to lessen fine lines and protect the skin from external stressors. It’s essentially skin care and makeup in one creamy package, and given that the application is foolproof (it blends into the skin crazy-easily), we can confidently say that this will have a permanent spot on our beauty shelves—until we run out in a few months, of course.
RMS Beauty “Un” Cover-Up Cream Foundation is available at rmsbeauty.com and retails for $52.
