When a new restaurant is set to open in New York, our office is buzzing. What can we say—we love food. You can imagine our excitement when we found out that a new Middle Eastern-inspired spot by two Cov-Alums, Samantha Wasser (from By Chloe) and Eden Grinshpan (founder of Eden Eats), in Lower Manhattan.
The two women’s joint venture is called Dez, its name meaning desert (see what they did there?). It a fast-casual spot, where you can pop in for a coffee or pastry or settle in for the night with friends enjoying dishes like shakshuka with a hint of curry and mouth-watering hummus made pink thanks to beets. And since we know you’re going to ask: Yes, every single inch of the space is practically made for Instagram. From the brightly colored bathroom with painted cacti on the walls to booths detailed with Moroccan rugs, and cleverly packaged homemade sauces, you can tell that Grinshpan and Wasser thought through every last detail. Ahead of Dez’s official opening this Thursday, we chatted with the two women to get the 411 on how Dez came to be.
