Everyone seems to be delulu for Labubu, which comes as no surprise considering that bag charms have been creeping back into the spotlight for a while now, making regular cameos on runways and fully taking over the street-style scene. This season, brands are offering up charms to feed our growing accessories obsession, giving us myriad ways to embellish our handbags.
While the Miu Miu Fall/Winter 2025 runway may have lacked bag charms, the front row was another story. Attendees showed up with handbags draped in Miu Miu’s popular trinkets, which dangled from their leather bags like jewelry. The fashion house and sister to Prada has quickly become a certified Gen Z fave, thanks to Miuccia Prada’s innovative direction and playful designs. For the house, bag charms are one of the many ways buyers can create an extension of themselves—a way to inject individuality into luxury pieces.
Dua Lipa has also been a longtime charm devotee, while Blackpink’s Lisa and model Amelia Gray Hamlin have leaned into the slightly chaotic energy of Labubu creatures. In fact, Lisa may be to blame for the sudden fixation on the kooky toy after she was seen with a Labubu last year, and despite the zeitgeist’s overnight obsession, Labubu is nearly a decade old. In 2015 Chinese artist Kasing Lung, who’s based in Hong Kong, introduced Labubus in his book, The Monsters. Since then, it’s become an unlikely mascot of the recent designer bag charm craze. Perhaps it’s because of its nostalgia, collectible nature, or fashion’s shift from quiet luxury to loud and playful aesthetics, the Labubu phenomenon has taken off following celebrity co-signs, street style visibility, and a growing appetite for personality pieces. Polarizing, yes, but nonetheless perfectly on trend. For these mini accessories to have this type of virality both on and off the runway only indicates to us that it has staying power.
Below, are some of the bag charms we’re shopping instead of Labubu’s, in case you're struggling to get your hands on one.
