We're Layering Our Bangles Now

A (not so new) styling hack that I'm just catching onto.

As a Capricorn, I tend to put things in categories—mental folders that help me feel organized and productive. Some of these categorizations are (mostly) universal and practical: flip flops are for summer, puffer jackets are for winter, so on and so forth. But, in terms of fashion, there are some things that just don't need to compartmentalized—and doing so is actually a huge mistake because you miss out on all of the fun, season-defying styling opportunities. I was all on board with the chunky bangle boom but I have always compartmentalized bangles as an accessory reserved for warmer weather and meant to be paired with short sleeves. Until recently, that is. Everything changed for me when I saw one of my personal style icons Tessa Thompson wearing a red resin bangle over the sleeve of a cropped blazer at the NYTW Gala in New York City—my perspective expanded almost immediately.

Thompson's red resin bangle served as a pop of color to her overall look. Beyond the color it added to an otherwise neutral look, the layer of red over the black of the blazer over the off-white of the blouse underneath added extra dimension which makes any outfit more intriguing to look at.

Fall/Winter 2026 runways and Tessa Thompson seem to be on the same page. Zankov paired bangles of varying materials and designs on blouses and knits and, in some instances, made a case for the shapes and silhouettes that come as a result. Ashlyn placed silver bangles and cuffs on the chiffon sleeves of a black maxi dress, adding an industrial, medieval armor-like element.

On Roberto Cavalli's runway, bangles created flared sleeves and a case was made for wearing them over coats, too. While not paired over a sleeve per say, Ulla Johnson took it one step further. A model walked the runway with a bangle worn over a leather glove. Accessories over accessories just for the sake of accessorizing—an amazing concept.

Tessa Thompson isn't the only star unwilling to wait for warm weather to wear her bangles—at Paris Fashion Week, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wore a mixed metal set of bangles over the sleeve of a form-fitting turtleneck top because, why not?

Take all of this as your sign to layer your bangles over your sleeves for the remainder of the chilly days–and then continue to wear them throughout the spring and summer, and then repeat when it gets cold again. Long story short: keep your bangles out and ready to wear year round.
