This fashion month has been quite the journey and we've been transported to so many places—including the medieval times. Trends are are so cyclical that we're bound to end up all the way back in the Middle Ages from time to time, chainmail, layers, elaborate headwear, and all. Other style details to keep in mind when considering medieval fashion? Velvet, tapestry-inspired materials, big dramatic sleeves, hooded capes, and layers upon layers (upon layers).

On Ralph Lauren's Fall/Winter 2026 runway, broad shoulders encouraged strength and taking up space, while chainmail and medieval-inspired jewelry replicated armor, serving as a source of power and form of protection all at once. Heavy belts, leather corsets, and velvet gowns also played into the Middle Ages and, all of this paired with the house’s signature equestrian heritage, resulted in a collection that felt true to the brand and both modern and essentially as retro as it gets at the same time.

Over at Area's Fall/Winter 2026 show, the Gobelins tapestry inspiration was presented loud and clear through draped gowns, some in intriguing patterns, and others featuring a mis-match of fabrics and materials including velvet and tassels.

Arguably, medieval-inspired looks have circled back in fashion because they make us feel strong and empowered, all while offering a little bit of an escape from the troubles of the modern world.

Ahead, the Medieval-inspired fashion pieces that Coveteur editors are eyeing.

Ann Demeulemeester Feathered Knit Headband

"The first designer who comes to mind is Ann Demeulemeester. After her PFW FW20 collection, I began to associate her with a medieval-inspired aesthetic—romantic, a little dark, and nostalgic. This headband captures those vibes." - Natasha Sheridan, Social Creative Lead

Simone Rocha Embellished Cotton-Polin Shirt

"A puffed sleeve always reminds me of medieval times, obviously. This classic white button down was made with a twist. Rocha has a way of taking structured classics and making them feel modern. And if the description of “gathered princess sleeves” isn’t convincing enough, the hand-embellished pearls on the collar seal the deal." - Natasha Sheridan, Social Creative Lead

Net-A-Porter
$915

Miista Emile Boots

"I’m obsessed with Miista’s Emile boots right now, they’re pure period-drama energy. Those raw leather edges, the eyelets running down the front, the sculpted square toe…it’s all drama, but in the coolest way." - Kala Herh, Social Strategy Lead

Miista
$545

Alexis Bittar Metal Hinge Collar Necklace

"Want to dip your toes into the medieval trend? This rhodium-plated collar necklace from Alexis Bittar is the perfect place to start. It’s like wearable armor—perfect for going full-on medieval, but you can also use it level up an everyday outfit." - Kala Herh, Social Strategy Lead

Manurí Chainmail Halterneck Top

"The medieval times gave us chainmail—and I'm forever grateful. I feel like the chainmail halter top, in general, has been in and out of the trend cycle, but I'd like to think that it''ll soon make a return. I'm manifesting me, this top, and an aperol spritz on a beach in Ibiza." - Bianca Asare, Associate Editor

At Present x KEANE Middle Pea Ring

"Chunky jewelry was all the rage in the Medieval times—especially when set with stones, rubies in particular, as it was thought they provided spiritual protection. Trends are obviously cyclical, so consider me a Medieval jewelry enthusiast." - Bianca Asare, Associate Editor

At Present

Alaïa Gant Opera Gloves

"I have a feeling that these opera gloves would make me feel incredibly strong and powerful—is it just me? This metallic silver is reminiscent of armor and, therefore, provides a protected feeling." - Bianca Asare, Associate Editor

Wolf & Badger Velvet Dress Coat

"During the Middle Ages, long silhouettes and heavy materials like velvet were all the rage. This rich, deep plum colored velvet feels as medieval as it could possibly get." - Bianca Asare, Associate Editor
