8 Holiday Party Outfit Formulas, Straight From The Runways

Holiday party season is always a fun and exhausting time. As a Leo, I love having almost an entire month dedicated to getting dressed up in various, festive looks. Getting ready for a function is arguably one of the best parts of having somewhere to go, so I relish in putting together a bitchy little look to relish in the festive spirit. There are, however, limits to my creativity, and with the cold rushing in, planning a serve multiple evenings per week can become a little tedious.

Thankfully, we just saw a season of perfectly festive moments marched down the runways during fashion month, providing ample inspiration for our holiday party dressing plans. From Matthieu Blazy’s statement-making textured skirts at Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2025 show to the pops of colored hosiery at Alaïa, ahead are the best holiday outfit moments, straight from SS26 runways.

1. Pair A Simple Top With A Statement Skirt

At Matthieu Blazy’s debut Chanel show in October, the Belgian designer sent a series of brightly coloured, textured skirts with simple, everyday tops down the runway. For a statement-making moment that feels both polished and fun, opt for this formula.

2. Try The "Jeans And A Nice Top" Theory

The "jeans and a nice top" theory prevailed at Valentino SS26, and what feels more casually festive than a perfect, interesting jacket styled back with a classic denim? Go for something metallic on top to ensure things feel adequately festive.

3. Make Your Coat The Outfit

At Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Balenciaga SS26 debut, he employed a styling trick that I just wrote about and always fall back on in the event of having “nothing to wear”: Just wear an evening coat! Throw on a pair of heels and dark sunglasses and you’re good to go. Add tights for warmth and make sure your accessories carry themselves.

4. Try A Colored Tight & Shiny Heel

Alaïa

The show: Alaïa Spring/Summer 2026

Alaïa’s SS26 show this year reminded us that there are a few simple tricks to turn an outfit into a festive moment. Layer a simple, everyday/night coat with colored tights and a shiny little pump, and you’re ready for the party.

5. Swap Your Pants For A Flowy Skirt

Schiaparelli

I love how versatile this look is and works off the things that most women have in their wardrobe: a good blazer and a silk skirt. There is something so timeless about this silhouette and proportions. Plus, an all-black look will always have you looking like the most elegant in the room.

6.Opt For A Simple Black Suit

There is no occasion more suited for a black suit than…any event you could ever attend. And this applies to holiday parties too! I love this Christopher Esber option for the perfect example of how a simple black suit is made interesting again, and a little sexy!

7. Try A Statement Leather Jacket

Khaite

Never underestimate the power of a good statement jacket. At Khaite’s SS26 show, leather was everywhere, but nothing made as much of an impact as this cape-like red leather blazer. The deep red tone only makes things feel more festive, and there is a way to do it (as displayed) that feels more cool than on-the-nose.

8. Throw On A Sequin Dress

When all else fails, fall back to a classic: the sequin dress. At Simone Rocha, the British designer proved that not much else needs to happen by way of styling when you have a disco ball on your body, and I tend to agree. When you can’t be bothered, is there anything cooler than throwing on the loudest party dress you own and making zero effort with anything else?
