I’m a Short Woman & These Are the Only Sweatpants I Wear

In truth, I believe I was born ready for the loungewear-worshipping, slipper-wearing, work-from-home state we’ve slid into amidst the pandemic. Anyone who knew me in high school (or college, for that matter) can attest to the fact that I’ve been a sincere sweatpants connoisseur long before SKIMS was even a twinkle in Kim Kardashian West’s eye. Like many scrolling through Instagram this year, I noticed the jump in loungewear ads in my feed, and I got excited. My time is finally here. Wearing sweats every waking hour of the day is not only totally acceptable, it’s the hallmark of 2020 style.
While those of us with mile-long legs look effortlessly chic in our high-waisted joggers—not at all frumpy or stubby—shorter women are presented with a considerable challenge to find flattering work-from-home sweats. This is a problem I have recently come to know as a woman under 5'4" with proportionately even shorter legs. All too often, the coziest and comfiest of my collection will bless me with the silhouette of some kind of loose, lumpy diaper and even shrink the perceived height of my legs even more—completely counterproductive to high-waisted trousers and not to mention extremely unflattering. Without the length or proportions to fill out the fabric, the fleece gathers in all the wrong places and results in less of a Hailey Bieber cool and more of a granny-chic look.
