Transitional Shoes for Fall to Help You Combat Fluctuating Temperatures
Sneakers, sandals, and everything in between.

The sign of a summer well spent is a well-worn pair of shoes. Maybe it’s the soles of your hiking boots, the threadbare straps of your favorite summer sandals, or the heel you broke while dancing at your friend’s wedding. For me, it’s my favorite pair of Dansko clogs. After more than five years of wear, the foam inside of the shoe’s upper ridge has detached and the leather upper is literally falling apart. If your cobbler has also raised their eyebrows at a disintegrating pair, it might be time to replenish and ready your footwear wardrobe for the transition from late summer to early fall. Whether you, like me, are in need of a new pair of clogs or simply want a fresh pair of boots to prepare for autumn, we’ve gathered worthy contenders to replace your beloved shoes with something new that will last just as long.
Formal Events & Weddings
Wedding season is still in full swing, and the best wedding guest outfits include items you can reuse for a date, party, or other special occasion. Here are a few options of varying heel heights, from the prim and practical kitten to a sky-high platform.
Outdoor Shoes for Hiking (or Lounging)
There's a range of needs when it comes to shoes to adventure in. I personally only require my shoes to handle the terrain between the car and the boulder I will be basking on near the river, but some might need a hiking shoe that can take backpacking through the Sierras. As the summer comes to a close, it’s time to spend as much time outdoors as possible before temperatures drop, so here are some sturdy options—whether you’re a hiker, basker, or both.
Everyday Sneakers
One of my favorite back-to-school memories is picking out the pair of sneakers I would wear that year. A lot of thought went into the decision as this pair would define my style persona that year—was I going to be a Vans girl or Converse kid? Nike or Adidas? Something classic that would go with everything or another option that would stand out? These are a few I’ve been (currently) eyeballing for practical, everyday wear.
Everything Else
If you don’t want to wear sandals or sneakers to the office, these are some fabulous everyday options that are great for transitional weather. Clogs, mules, loafers, and low boots can all be styled with flowy linen dresses on warm days. Once we hit October, swap the dresses for a light sweater, jeans, and thick socks.
