Micro Hemlines & Knee-Socks: The Biggest Trends from Paris Fashion

Apparently, wrinkles are fashionable this season.

After a month of nonstop newness, fashion month has come to a close, brought to a tasteful end with Paris’s show circuit. Behemoth brands like Chanel, Hermès, and Louis Vuitton each debuted their Spring 2024 collections to an audience of celebrities, tastemakers, and industry elite. Notable instances include Sarah Burton’s and Gabriela Hearst’s final designs for Alexander McQueen and Chloé respectively, and a terrifying bed bug outbreak threatening the city of lights—pro tip: avoid your fashion friends for a while. On a lighter note, we’ve rounded up the biggest trends of Paris Fashion Week to hopefully implement into your wardrobe this season.

Ultra High Waists

Hermès

Loewe, always known for poking fun at sartorial tropes, jacked trouser waistlines up to models’ bustlines. Similar ideas presented themselves in the collections of both Alaïa and Louis Vuitton—both of which threw suspenders into the mix.

Ruffles

Alexander McQueen

Ruffles were another throughline in Paris’ Spring 2024 collections. Their scales varied, whether it be supersized at Alexander McQueen or delicately layered at Gabriela Hearst. They even got a ribbon trim at Dries Van Noten.

Bedhead but for Your Clothes

Vivienne Westwood

In many collections, models looked almost as if they had grabbed laundry from the floor, rolled around in bed, and then ran out the door—but in a highly luxurious manner. Think purposefully wrinkled materials at Gauchere and haphazard layering Miu Miu.

Sheer Skirts

Balmain

Sheer materials are commonplace these days, so we were pleased to see this season’s take: see-through skirts. Sacai, Givenchy, and Dries Van Noten. Modesty options ranged from skirt-like lining to mere undergarments—take your pick.

Micro Hemlines

Acne Studios

Ever since Miu Miu debuted their infamous micro minis a few seasons back, ultra-short hemlines have proliferated. This trend continued through the collections of Stella McCartney, Isabel Marant, and Acne Studios.

Knee Socks

Marni

We love simple styling tricks that viewers can easily recreate with items they already own, as exemplified in the knee sock trend Paris saw this season. We saw everything from mini-shift dress pairings to knee-length skirting at Givenchy.

Eccentric Florals

Marni

Florals for spring aren’t exactly groundbreaking—we all know the quote—but designers added a little pizazz to their sartorial botany this season. Think laser-cut leather at Hermès and bouncing bulbs at Marni.
