The holidays are upon us and with the current news circulation, Giving Tuesday provides us with a space to amplify and show up for our communities. From supporting local organizations to mutual aid networks, small acts of kindness go a long way in tandem with all the holiday festivities. Below, the Coveteur team sheds light on the charities and causes closest to their hearts.

Abortion Fund of Ohio: This past Election Day, Issue 1 passed in Ohio, my home state, establishing a right to abortion in the state constitution. Unfortunately, though, not everyone has access to legal, safe, and affordable abortion care. And Republican members of the state legislature are currently working to try and undermine what the majority of voters approved.

That’s why I’m donating to the Abortion Fund of Ohio this Giving Tuesday. The organization provides financial assistance, transportation, housing, and more to help Ohioans access abortion and reproductive healthcare. The type of reproductive care you have access to shouldn’t depend on your race, class, or zip code—AFO works to make this dream a reality. –Ama Kwarteng (Beauty Director)

Alexandria House: Alexandria House is dedicated to creating a secure and nurturing environment for women and children facing homelessness and trauma. Their commitment extends to providing transitional housing, facilitating the journey from emergency shelters to achieving economic stability and securing permanent housing for these individuals.

This holiday season, Alexandria House is facilitating a toy drive for its residents as well as an Amazon wish list.Lauren Malanga (Campaign Manager)

Ali Forney Center: The Ali Forney Center is committed to saving the lives of LGBTQ+ young people, with a mission to protect them from the harms of homelessness and potential violence and empower them with the needed tools to live independently. The Center was founded in 2002 in memory of Ali Forney, a homeless, gender-nonconforming youth who was forced to live on the streets, where they were tragically murdered. — Greg Brossia (Managing Director)

Bowery Mission: A staple on Bowery, The Bowery Mission helps New Yorkers overcome homelessness and marginalization by providing various services to the community. From compassionate care (meals, clothing, shelter, showers) to transitional housing support, children's programs, and residential and community programs (adults in crisis healing from past trauma and establishing personal goals), The Bowery Mission is always open to volunteers and donations whenever possible. — Lauren Malanga (Campaign Manager)

G.L.I.T.S Inc. (Gays & Lesbians Living in a Transgender Society): Mission Statement: “We approach the health and rights crises faced by transgender community members and the sex worker community holistically using harm reduction, human rights principles, economic and social justice, along with a commitment to empowerment and pride in finding solutions from our own community. The first issue we address is that of immediate need/crisis support for transgender sex workers and the TLGBQIA and Bi Poc community members from the NYC area, across the US, and globally through supporting asylum seekers from our priority communities. The next issue we address is health care and health resilience for transgender sex workers.” — Andie Eisen (Culture Editor)

Heart of Dinner: Heart of Dinner is a NYC-based non-profit that provides hot meals for the most vulnerable Asian elderly community in New York. In a culture where food is such a prominent love language, food insecurity in the Asian community surprisingly goes unnoticed. Financial donations are always welcome, and NYC-based volunteers are always needed. These hot meals are delivered in hand-decorated bags from the Heart of Dinner community, creating a warm and loving expression from one to another.

And in honor of Giving Tuesday, the non-profit teamed up with Maison Miru once again. From November 28 to December 4, Maison Miru is donating 20% of proceeds from the Jade and White Topaz Nap Earrings to Heart of Dinner. — Katie Mok (Content Management Coordinator)

New York Cares Coat Drive: We all know how cold New York can get with or without the snow in the winter, and with the temperatures starting to drop, many New Yorkers are not equipped with proper coats and jackets to stay warm. Any new or lightly used jackets or coats can be donated—check the drop-off map for a location near you! Or a $25 financial donation can provide a jacket and meals for those in need. — Katie Mok (Content Management Coordinator)

Planned Parenthood: With the rights to our bodily autonomy becoming stripped further every day, supporting organizations like Planned Parenthood feels more dire than ever. While we’re lucky enough to be based in New York here at Coveteur, “more than 2 million patients each year rely on Planned Parenthood for expert, innovative, inclusive health services,” and we can’t take our privileged circumstances for granted while so many in other states across the country aren’t as fortunate. Consider donating, volunteering, or supporting their services however you can this season. — Emily Greene (Marketing Strategy Director)

Remake: Remake describes itself as ‘a global advocacy organization fighting for fair pay and climate justice in the clothing industry.’ By putting fashion lovers and fashion workers at the forefront, they take a new perspective on what it means to be in the industry—and advocate for its betterment. — Paige Kowal (Associate Account Manager)

The Trevor Project: A non-profit dedicated to providing crisis counseling, advocacy, and resources to the LGBTQ+ community, The Trevor Project might typically be more top-of-mind during Pride month, but making a contribution during the holidays can make a world of a difference to the community—particularly for those who aren’t able to be surrounded by friends or family, and may be struggling more than usual. — Emily Greene (Marketing Strategy Director)

Trans Santa: Founded in 2020 by Indya Moore, Kyle Lasky, and Chase Strangio, Trans Santa was born of a desire to focus on trans care, joy, and giving at a critical time of escalating violence and threats of violence against members of the trans community. Trans Santa’s goal is to show trans youth that they are loved, supported, and have a family of people throughout the world who want them to live their best lives. — Greg Brossia (Managing Director)

West Side Campaign Against Hunger: With 30 distribution locations across Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn, WSCAH was the first food pantry to offer supermarket-style selection to those in need. The organization provided 11,000 families with Thanksgiving meals last year, and with food insecurity at an all time high in NYC, this year’s goal is to serve 13,000 families through the Healthy Foods Holiday Challenge. A donation of $75 provides a family with healthy and fresh groceries for their holiday meal. — Caroline Dunn (Manager, Sales & Brand Partnerships)
