On an evening filled with dozens of gorgeous fashion and beauty looks, the most jaw-dropping moment from the 2019 Oscars red carpet was the arrival of Lady Gaga wearing over 128 carats (128.54, to be exact) of Tiffany diamonds. That’s 82 radiant facets, in case you were wondering. The cushion-cut brilliant Tiffany diamond necklace was last worn by none other than Audrey Hepburn for the Breakfast at Tiffany’s publicity photo shoot and has never made an appearance at an awards show until now. Founder Charles Lewis Tiffany bought the rough diamond in 1878, and it is still considered one of the most important gemstone finds of the 19th century.
Reed Krakoff, the Tiffany & Co. Chief Artistic Officer, said of the incomparable yellow diamond, “LadyGaga is the ultimate creator, innovator, and rule breaker, and I’m thrilled that she will be wearing the legendary Tiffany Diamond on the awards show red carpet for the first time since it was discovered 141 years ago.” A star is born, indeed.
