Go bigger, bolder, and brighter.

When it comes to summer beauty, the hairstyles are bigger, the makeup looks are brighter, and the nail art is bolder. There's nothing like a seasonal change that makes you want to readjust some aspect of your look, whether that's testing out a new chrome highlighter or deciding to take the plunge and get bangs. But before you pull out the scissors or hit "buy" on the latest viral product, let's be clear on the looks you'll want to rock all summer long. Ahead, three experts break down the nine biggest hair, makeup, and nail trends you'll want to try out as soon as possible.

Summer Hair Trends

Bold Cuts and Color

"As we re-emerge back into society, some people are going to mark this significant moment with a new cut or a hair color that's a bit out of their comfort zone," says Chris Appleton, celebrity hair stylist and Color Wow's global creative director. "People are going to be experimenting with new looks because they want to change up their hair and feel fresh," Appleton says. "Plus, people want to cut away any memories of quarantine."

Curtain Bangs

"Curtain bangs are going to be really popular this summer since they're easy to work with," says Appleton. Don't be afraid to spritz a texturizing spray all over this cut, as "this specific layered haircut paired with a volumizer will give your hair more bounce, adding more life to your look," he adds.

Natural Texture

Having to live without access to a bi-weekly salon appointment for a year will definitely have an effect on some people. "I think a lot of people learned how to embrace their natural texture during quarantine because obviously they weren't getting blowouts or having their hair styled," says Appleton. "We've also seen a lot more heat-free styling," he adds, "like braiding your hair at night to create a new look when you wake up."

Summer Nail Trends

Wavy Nails

You've probably seen this trend while scrolling through your social media feeds. FYI—they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. And for a good reason. "This trend is great because you can use any shades you want," says Hannah Roxit, an influencer and Sally Hansen nail ambassador. "Depending on what colors you choose, you might end up with a more bold vibe, or you could opt for something more neutral."

Skittles Manicure

This has been popular for a while, but Roxit sees it continuing through the summer. "Rainbow colors are a perfect choice if you want a fun effect that isn't too over the top," she says.

Checkerboard Nails

If you're looking for a trend with a hint of nostalgia, Roxit recommends this one. "These are perfect if you want to get a ’70's vibe,'' she says. "The color palette and off-kilter lines make it feel almost groovy, but the graphic print keeps it looking modern and cool."

Summer Makeup Trends

Glowy Skin

It wouldn't be summer without bronzed and illuminated skin. According to Robert Sesnek, a celebrity makeup artist for Catrice Cosmetics, this season is all about letting your dewy visage take center stage. Think an uber-moisturized base, barely-there foundation, and radiant cheeks that give off a post-facial glow.

Natural-Looking Lips

"Soft, smudged, rosy, and comfortable, this trend gives you that your-lips-but-better look," says Sesnek. To recreate this trend, you can either swipe on your favorite nude lipstick, or you could take a pigmented lip stain and gently tap it into your lips to diffuse the color for a soft finish.

Purple Shadow

If you're looking for a sign to experiment with color, this is it. A bright lilac eyeshadow brightens up any makeup look while also making a statement. Dust your favorite shade of purple onto your eyes, then finish off with a few coats of mascara.
