Nestled in Palm Springs lies a home rendered in such a shocking hue that it’s hard to miss. Dubbed The Valentine, this bubblegum-hued home boasts three separate units connected by a luxurious outdoor gathering space. Luckily, the abode is actually a rental on Airbnb, available for all to enjoy the locale through the lens of rosé-colored glasses.

Sisters Jen (reality TV producer) and Katherine (pediatric intensive care nurse) Green purchased the space in 2017 and their renovation process was extremely hands-on. “The bones were there—tale as old as time—but there’s no sugar coating the fact that it needed a major facelift,” says Jen Green. In lieu of designers and architects, the Green parents stepped in. Along with hanging wallpaper, “Our mom reupholstered various mid-century chairs, all of the outdoor couch cushions, roman shades, and so much more.” Their dad took the role of contractor, stripping walls, installing windows, and remodeling bathrooms and kitchens. The design team got creative, utilizing platforms like Etsy and Facebook Marketplace to curate on a budget.

When you’re designing in an area with such a strong visual, architectural identity as Palm Springs, it seems a waste not to take advantage. “[The city] itself is a great source of inspiration,” she continues. “You feel like you’ve traveled back in time when driving through the neighborhoods and the architecture makes you feel like you’re constantly on the set of a film.” The sister design duo utilized that retro, pop-art nod in many of their creative decisions, invoking vibrant wallpaper, wicker furniture, and exotic animal prints. The sisters are revealing all the details behind their creative process as they give us a further glimpse inside the space—just in time for Valentine’s Day.
