New York Fashion Week has finally wrapped, which means it's time for our trend report of all that we saw during one of the longer weeks in the fashion calendar. Between shows, parties, store events, presentations, pop ups, and more, we saw a wide spectrum of what the NYC fashion scene had to offer this season and, spoiler! It was all very good.

The shows of NYFW generally set the tone for what we might see on the runways in Europe in the coming weeks trend wise, and there were plenty of notable moments to call out from the Spring/Summer 2027 season already. Namely, peplum has peaked this season, appearing as a key silhouette in countless shows from various designers. We noticed flashes of the silhouette during SS26, but now we can affirm the trend is fully-fledged. Peplum came alongside a surplus of ruffles, key colors like vibrant red, butter yellow, and cobalt blue—which always returns for Spring/Summer—plus styling tricks like cummerbunds and off-the-shoulder moments.

Belted In

Conner Ives SS27; Kallmeyer SS27; 6397 SS27 // Spotlight Launchmetrics

We noticed this belt trend early on in the week, and the cummerbunds kept coming well into the shows. At Kallmeyer, cummerbunds were layered over suit jackets and tailored pants, while at Conner Ives, thick silk bands like gentleman's scarves wrapped around the waists. Towards the end of the week at 6397, floral screen-printed fabrics formed more casual cummerbunds for the everyday, which we especially loved styled with a grocery bag and casual button-down.

Khaite SS27; Ashlyn SS27; Diotima SS27 // Spotlight Launchmetrics

Peplum silhouettes were the main act of Spring/Summer 2027, and we anticipate it won't just be New York exploring the shape this season. At Proenza Schouler, Rachel Scott cut asymmetric tops and gathered them at the hip line for an exaggerated effect, while over at Ashlyn, neat little jackets and casual knit polos alike all flared from the waists. At Diotima, ruffled shaped petruded from underneath jackets, and Khaite's Catherine Holstein experimented with romantic little tops with crinoline-style peplums under the bust.

Red Hot

Carolina Herrera SS27; TWP SS27; Ashlyn SS27 // Spotlight Launchmetrics

Red reoccurs most Spring/Summer seasons in varying shades, and this year, it was all about eye-watering, warm-toned poppy red. Throughout the week, we saw vibrant examples at Proenza Schouler, Ashlyn, Eckhaus Latta, Carolina Herrera, TWP, and Altuzarra. The shade is the perfect way to block color into your wardrobe while feeling sophisticated at the same time.

All Frills

Ralph Lauren SS27; Carolina Herrera SS27; Diotima SS27 // Spotlight Launchmetrics

An adaptation from Fall/Winter's more gothic, dark romance trend, NYFW's Spring/Summer 2027 collections showed romanticism via ruffles. At Ralph Lauren, it was a cotton shirt with a ruffled collar, similarly to Khaite, which featured sheer skirt suits with contrasting ruffle trims. At Diotima and Carolina Herrera, evening dresses featured layered ruffled elements for volume and drama, while at Ashlyn the ruffles were layered and less feminine as a fashion-forward option.

Lemonade Stand

Lemon, butter, pale yellow—all great descriptors for the shade of yellow that dominated the collections this season. At Proenza Schouler, Rachel Scott worked it into tiger print, while at Tibi, Amy Smilovic blocked the buttery shade into airy separates for everyday, alongside Trish Wescoat Pound of TWP, who worked it into weather-proof overcoats and layering pieces to add brightness to her collection of neutrals—another good styling trick for those who are color-averse.

Cold Shoulder

We love a styling trick that can work in any wardrobe, and this season it was all about the cold shoulder. Designers like Tory Burch and brands like Tibi, 6397, and Altuzarra all featured silhouettes that had shoulder straps purposefully dropped off to create a casual, undone feeling to the looks, something a little shipwrecked, romantic, hot and bothered about it all which we loved.
