I spend a lot of time looking at clothes. Womenswear, mostly, for obvious reasons. But lately, some of the styling ideas I keep coming back to have been coming from somewhere else entirely: the men’s collections.  Not because I’m planning to start shopping exclusively in the menswear department, but because some of the best styling ideas right now seem to be coming from menswear designers. And not the obvious oversized blazer or borrowed button-down shirt. It’s the smaller, slightly stranger choices: a cummerbund over a sweater, a dressed-up bag with very ordinary jeans, or a formal collar on an otherwise practical jacket.

Ahead, find the menswear trends I'm integrating into my wardrobe ASAP.

The Cummerbund Has Left The Tuxedo

The first look that sent me down this rabbit hole came from Celine’s Spring 2027 menswear show, where Michael Rider wrapped brightly colored silk cummerbunds around sweaters and trousers.

A cummerbund is, admittedly, not something most of us had on our 2027 mood boards. But removed from its black-tie heritage and paired with simple knits and trousers, it becomes a styling piece in its own right. The idea has already crossed into the womenswear SS27 collections and street style alike, worn less as a formal accessory and more like an extra layer around the waist.

The takeaway is quite literal: swap the scarf around your waist for a cummerbund.

Harry Styles recently made a convincing case for the red-and-white raglan tee, worn oversized with navy shorts and sneakers. It’s the kind of piece that could easily read as something pulled from an old gym bag, but the proportions make it feel much more considered.

Pedro Pascal offers the more dressed-up version: a beige jacket, straight jeans and a white T-shirt are simple enough, but paired with an oversized woven Bottega Veneta bag, the whole look shifts. The lesson here is less about recreating either outfit exactly and more about the combination: relaxed clothes with one decidedly polished piece.

Your Bag Doesn’t Have To Behave

Speaking of bags, menswear is also making a very good case for bringing back the colorful duffle.

At Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2027 menswear show, a bright pink monogrammed version was carried with grey tailoring. Jacob Elordi took a similar approach off the runway, pairing loose jeans and a white tee with an enormous yellow Louis Vuitton bag.

The appeal is precisely that the bag isn’t there to quietly complete the outfit. Against otherwise neutral, uncomplicated clothes, it becomes the entire point. After seasons of understated black and brown leather, an oversized duffle in pink, yellow, or something equally unapologetic feels like a much more fun proposition.

Unconventional Collars

Finally, Jonathan Anderson’s Spring 2027 Dior collection makes a case for paying more attention to collars. Familiar jackets were finished with exaggerated dark shawl collars, including a camel blazer with a sweeping shearling-lined version that sits somewhere between a smoking jacket and workwear.

It’s a relatively small intervention, but one that changes the character of an otherwise familiar jacket. The contrast is what makes it interesting: practical outerwear shapes paired with a detail traditionally associated with more formal dressing. It also taps into a wider idea running through menswear right now, where familiar wardrobe staples are being made interesting through proportion and styling rather than complete reinvention.

Maybe that’s why the men’s collections have become such a useful reference point. The pieces themselves aren’t necessarily radical. It’s what happens when something formal meets something casual, sporty meets polished, or sensible gets paired with something slightly ridiculous.

No menswear department required. Just a few ideas worth stealing.
