France Bans Fast Fashion & Sarah Burton's First Givenchy Campaign Is So Babygirl

Welcome back to Fashion Bulletin, a weekly column where Coveteur's senior fashion editor, Ella O’Keeffe, recaps all the buzzy industry news you missed from the week.

This week, on Tuesday, specifically, France’s Senate voted in favor of a revised bill to regulate fast fashion companies in an effort to mitigate the ecological impact of rampant consumerism and overconsumption. These efforts are long overdue globally, and as the luxury capital of the world, it makes sense why France is leading the charge. According to a report from the UN Environment Program, from 2000 to 2015, garment production doubled, while the lifecycle of garment use decreased by 36%. As a result of the boom in production during the 2000s, approximately 92 million tons of textile waste are now produced by humans every year.

This bill, if passed, will go after players that “ignore environmental, social, and economic realities, notably Shein and Temu,” Jean-Francois Longeot, chair of the Senate’s Committee on Regional Planning and Sustainable Development, told Reuters. There will be less of a focus on “classic” fast fashion brands like Zara, with the bill focussing on ultra-fast fashion brands that fuel mass overconsumption. Under these regulations, measures will require reaching at least 10 euros per item of clothing by 2030, or up to 50% of the product’s price excluding tax.

There is no doubt that these new regulations are a first step towards a very long list of the ways the fashion industry heavily impacts the environment, but France, and the rest of the European Union, has always been a forward-thinking nation when it comes to combatting climate change. As purveyors of savoir-faire and craftsmanship, it makes sense why the French are fed up with Temu. As are we all!

Jeremy Allen White For Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton

More positive news from the French: The Bear protagonist and internet boyfriend has gone from sweating in his Calvins to cleaning up for Louis Vuitton in an announcement that White has been named a new House Ambassador. Great news for those rabid for the messy, blue-eyed man. According to Pharrell Williams: “Jeremy’s got a quiet confidence and authenticity that you can’t fake. It’s effortless. At Louis Vuitton, it’s about real people who move culture forward—and Jeremy lives that. We’re proud to welcome him into the family."

After wearing the brand to the Met Gala and the SAG Awards, it was only a matter of time before the contract was clocked. We can expect more thirsty campaigns incoming!

Sharna Osborne Lenses Valentino’s New Campaign

Valentino

Alessandro Michele introduces us to the brand’s new bag shape, Valentino Garavani Vain, with a new campaign lensed by Sharna Osborne. Wearing Spring/Summer 2025—Michele’s debut runway collection—Osborne’s signature style represents “beauty suspended in time” for the brand, riffing on the analog nature of Osborne’s work to communicate a visual language and a reflection the S/S25 collection, one that was heavily influenced by the archives of the house. Michele is doing his thing at Valentino, and I am enjoying watching it play out.

Sarah Burton’s First Givenchy Campaign

Givenchy

Speaking of creative directors doing their thing, Sarah Burton’s first Fall/Winter 2025 Givenchy campaign is out, and shown through “Babygirl”director Halima Reijn’s lens, starring Kaia Gerber and capturing an intimate exchange between the two women—a meditation on who Burton’s Givenchy woman is, and who she will become. Despite the mixed reviews of her debut season for the house, we know Burton’s capabilities exceed what critics have to say, and I’m acutely aware that we are living in a time where Burton is one of the only women at the head of a luxury house, making her perspective all the more intimate and rare. Here, a level of human experience comes through the imagery, beckoning us to lean closer to find out what else Burton has to offer.

A New York Night With Coach

Coach

On Tuesday night, Coach announced the launch of new fragrance Coach Gold with a celebration at Nine Orchard in New York City, hosted by Stuart Vevers and Storm Reid. On the rooftop of the venue, guests gathered for dinner and drinks over the city skyline to toast a new era of fragrance for the house. The weather was perfection, a strawberry full moon rose over the skyline, I ate cake for dessert, and loved it.
