Easy Wardrobe Updates, All From Your Local Drugstore
As it turns out, you don’t need to go far to do a little shopping. We scouted the best fashion buys you can pick up at your local pharmacy.
There’s no denying my frequent flyer status at the local drugstore. Whether I’m popping in for a household item or stocking up on snacks, I usually find myself wandering the aisles in search of things I simply don’t need—outside of online shopping it’s one of the easiest forms of retail therapy. The upside to this is many new discoveries, especially in the wardrobe department. While it may not be the first place that comes to mind, your local drugstore likely has a ton of treasures just waiting to become part of your closet and style arsenal. So, go forth and shop — our favorite buys are detailed below.
A Basic Tee
This Hanes tee is technically men’s, but I love the boxy fit and wear it for everything — sleep, gym, dinner party — you name it. They’re easy to layer under loose dresses or over a more fitted turtleneck, and definitely won’t break the bank. I personally think that drugstore tees put designer cotton to shame, but that opinion is controversial. $4.99 for a pack of three, it's a steal!
Fun Hair Clips
I’ve actually never been partial to hair clips as I have way more hair than they’re willing to hold, but after spending too much time on TikTok I think I’ve finally nailed it. It seems that hair clips are always trending, and they’re the perfect low-lift add-on to any ensemble. Dress them up or dress them down, they just won’t quit when it comes to spicing up a simple look. I actually had two strangers ask me where these were from, to which I replied, Duane Reade for $7.99.
A Cute Beanie
It’s January, which means odds are you’re currently facing anxiety-inducing temps and it’s been a while since your limbs have seen the light of day. A great way to take your mind off the cold is to distract yourself with cute accessories, like a new beanie. This one was a steal at $6.99 from my local CVS, and pairs well with just about every coat I own. It may not be swanky cashmere, but it gets the job done and puts a little pep in my step as I head out the door. You also don’t have to worry about losing it, as there’s likely a whole new variety of colors at your local pharmacy just waiting to be perused.
Fool-Proof Tights
Is anyone able to get more than three wears out of a pair of tights without tearing them? If so, please call me. I’m a pro when it comes to snagging, so I learned not to invest in nice hosiery the hard way (although Wolford can be hard to resist). Drugstore tights speak for themselves. They’re great basics and don’t cost much, so if you need to toss them after one wear it won’t keep you up at night. Some pharmacies also have a nice selection of socks and stockings, from knee-highs to fishnets. Go wild for $6.99!
The Perfect Shades
Many believe that the “inexpensive shades only” rule is one to live by, and I actually used to roll my eyes at this until recently. Am I a responsible adult capable of keeping track of nice belongings? Absolutely not. Am I tempted to invest in a $300 pair of new designer glasses anyways? Absolutely. I was in a drugstore waiting for a prescription when I decided to wander over to the sunglass rack, and I was pleasantly surprised with their selection. These were not exactly *cheap* at $22.99 (is it just me, or is this a lot for drugstore sunglasses?), but they get the job done and do it in major style.
