I Never Wear Color, But This Clutch Trend Changed My Mind

As a minimalist through and through, it typically takes me some time before I can jump onto a trend. But lately, with the rise of colormaxxing this summer, I've been feeling FOMO, finding myself wondering, "Could I be one of those girls wearing head-to-toe turquoise, too?" While I'm not ready to dive all the way in just yet (catch me in a monochromatic yellow look next summer, I promise), I was eager to find a way to integrate color into my wardrobe without throwing my personal style to the wayside. So, I took to my favorite place for inspiration—the streets—to try and figure out how to add some color to my wardrobe. The answer came from front-row attendees at Couture and Men's Week, who all opted a colorful clutch trend to accessorize their outfits. Many of them styled their clutches with minimal shades in whites, creams, tans, making the trend something you can easily get behind without having a complete closet overhaul.

So, I tried it for a casual dinner out in the Hamptons, swapping my beloved black Toteme T-Lock Clutch with Liffner's orange satin Zip Clutch (which, admittedly, I've had my eye on for some time now). And to my surprise, I loved it. It made my outfit feel interesting, even captivating, without feeling too far away from what I normally wear. The orange somehow transcended into a neutral, feeling right in place amongst my uniform: denim, a white tee, and black heels.

Does this mean my minimalist days are behind me? Not necessarily. But if you, too, want to give color a go, I've rounded up some colorful clutch bags I have my eyes on—because yes, I'm ready to add a few more options to my wardrobe.
