The fashion did NOT disappoint.

The beauty of red carpet fashion is that it’s so not relatable, which is exactly why it’s so entertaining. Watching celebrities glide down the 77th Golden Globes red carpet adorned with CHANEL couture gowns, Harry Winston diamonds, and Jimmy Choo pumps while you sit in sweatpants on your couch is escapism at its finest. While we will likely not directly translate this year’s gowns and jumpsuits into our own wardrobes, it is possible to pull trends that can transcend red carpets to a ready-to-wear level.
The stars were unafraid to embrace Fashion with a capital F this year. The rule seemed to be either go strapless or be sure to make your sleeves count, with everything from Jodie Comer’s edgy poufs to Cate Blanchett’s butterfly sleeves. There was a contingent of sultry black shades and dark metallics, like those of Ana de Armas, Kerry Washington, and Margaret Qualley juxtaposed by ultra-feminine silhouettes and hues from Gwyneth Paltrow, Kaitlyn Dever, and Kirsten Dunst. The holiday spirit still seemed to be hanging in the air with an abundance of red, green, and even a very special gift…in the form of JLo. While always a difficult choice with so many contenders, click through to see our top five looks of the night.
