The 24 Best Top-Handle Bags of the Season

Apologies to your wallet.

By: Hannah Baxter

After examining each and every one of our street style photos from New York, Milan, and Paris Fashion Week, it became clear that the biggest bag trend of the season was the illustrious top-handle. From influencers to editors, it seemed like everyone carried their favorite version, styled with dresses and suits alike. There are as many options as you can dream up, and since lots of them fall into the mini bag category, you can probably fit two (or more) in your closet. Whether you prefer classic leather or eye-popping feathers, we found the 24 best top-handle bags for the fall, no matter your budget.

1. Minimalist and Ladylike

The top-handle bag was huge in the 1940s and 50s, when fashion was ladylike but embracing modernity. We wish our grandmothers had saved more of their vintage styles, but luckily designers have stepped up to the plate with chic, minimalist pieces in a variety of finishes.

Kozha Numbers The Mini Safe, $295

A buttery soft leather bag in classic black is the perfect way to start your top-handle bag collection.

Staud Bissett Bag, $375

Staud’s classic Bissett bag is back this season in a stunning patent lavender. Scoop up the matching dress if you’re feeling bold.

Nico Giani Tunilla Mini Circle Bag , $465

We love a structured circle bag, especially in a demure blush shade.

Little Liffner Little Lady Crossbody Handbag, $425

We’ve been fans of Little Liffner since exploring the founder, Paulina Liffner’s, closet in Stockholm last summer. Her cream little lady bag is our next must-have item.

Danse Lente Bobbi Curly Shearling Bucket Bag, $455

The shearling! The gold ring accents! We can’t get enough of this Danse Lente beauty.

Trademark Goodall Bucket Bag, $498

The oversized acrylic chain on this Trademark bag is calling our name. We need it in every color we can find.

Mansur Gavriel Calf Elegant Lady Bag, $825

No one does refined handbags like Mansur Gavriel, and their Lady bag is the perfect example. We dare you to stop at just one.

2. Statement-Making

On the days that you can’t be bothered to put together an Instagram-worthy outfit, a fabulous, outrageous, and downright look-at-me bag can make you feel like a million bucks. Pair them with jeans and a sweater, or your favorite cocktail dress. There’s no wrong way to rock one.

Susan Alexandra Lisa Bag, $265

The cutest beaded bag on the market, hands down. Every fashion editor worth her salt has one.

Loeffler Randall Zadie Feather Circle Tote, $350

Just look at this feathery confection! We challenge you to have a bad day when this bag is on your arm.

Kara Flash Baby Puffer Tote, $295

A bag that is truly meant for weekend parties. Case in point: When you photograph it with a flash, it glows in the dark. What is cooler than that?

Maryam Nassir Zadeh Glittered PVC Shoulder Bag, $385

The PVC trend is still going strong, and who better to master the bag version than the perennially cool Maryam Nassir Zadeh?

Yuzefi Mini Delila Bag, $560

If you love a good hardware moment on your bags, allow us to introduce this Yuzefi stunner.

Simon Miller Bonsai 20 Nubuck Bucket Bag, $590

Simon Miller Bonsai bags are truly addictive. With so many sizes and colors to choose from, it’s hard to stop at just one. We recommend starting with the medium size 20 in a ruby-red leather.

0711 TBILISI Small Copacabana Purse, $625

The bag brand from Georgia (the country, not the state) that is taking the fashion world by storm. We love the Copacabana’s plexiglass structure paired with the multicolored weaving.

Les Petits Joueurs Mini Pixie Zebra, $986

If a hot pink and embroidered zebra bag is wrong, then we never want to be right.

3. Treat Yourself

Sometimes you need to blow an entire paycheck on the bag of your dreams, and you know what? That is just fine by us. You do you, girl. Any of these top-handle styles will stand the test of time and are well worth the investment.

Edie Parker Oval Bag, $1,295

There’s something simultaneously precious and modern about Edie Parker’s bags, and the Oval style in particular. Just imagine carrying this around to your holiday parties. Perfection.

J.W. Anderson Disc Croc-Embossed Satchel, $1,750

We’ve already waxed poetic about the Pierce bag from J.W. Anderson, but this satchel version is equally drool-worthy.

Saint Laurent Black Lou Lou Small Quilted Leather Bag, $1,990

A black quilted leather bag from Saint Laurent is something to be treasured forever. The Lou Lou in small is a great place to start your collection.

Mark Cross Grace Small Box Bag, $2,295

Mark Cross does it again and again each season. The Small Box style is just begging to come home with us.

Gucci Logo Bucket Tote, $2,300

Two words: Velvet. Gucci. Enough said.

Gabriela Hearst Diana Leather Tote, $2,495

This was *the* bag at Paris Fashion Week, and for good reason. The accordion shape is to-die-for, and it’s a delightfully reserved yet statement-making piece.

Loewe Puzzle Color-Block Suede and Leather Shoulder Bag, $2,690

This top-handle bag is as versatile as the name suggests, although we’re partial to using the top-handle to show it off. It’s a true one-of-a-kind style.

Mini Lady Dior Calfskin Bag, price upon request

You’re not a style maven until you’ve scooped your first Lady Dior bag. This seafoam green number is absolutely gorgeous.
