The SS27 Runways Offered A Masterclass In Color Combinations

When it comes to styling inspiration, nothing beats the runway—for the bags we'll carry throughout the season, for new ways to style our tried-and-true sweater, and for color pairings that surprisingly work. The Spring/Summer 2027 runways had tons of the latter, with brands like Tory Burch, Tibi, and Ulla Johnson offering a masterclass in color theory. They delighted us, model after model, with combinations that shouldn't work, but really really do.

While the runways were technically geared towards the warm weather months, these color combinations can be integrated into your wardrobe immediately. Our best advice? Don't shy away from combinations you've never tried before—they may become your new go-to.

Primary colors go together—it's an undeniable truth. But sometimes, combinations like blue and red can feel too on the nose. On the Ralph Lauren SS27 runway, however, it was given a fresh twist with a pinky-red silk and a neon blue fur combination.

At Ulla Johnson, I snapped a video of a workwear-inspired ensemble that was anything but boring. The silhouettes—a button-down shirt and trousers—were familiar, but the pastel pink and mustard yellow combination made the outfit feel exciting and unmissable.

The same goes for the cobalt blue and highlighter yellow pairing on TWP's SS27 runway. I immediately took a picture (or two) as a reminder to brighten up darker shades with a playful layer on top.

When wearing a bold hue like lemon yellow, you may feel the need to tone it down with the surrounding pieces. But Brandon Maxwell proves otherwise. Instead of keeping it simple, add depth with olive green.

While we love a tan-on-tan ensemble, you can wear those tan trousers in a more playful way, too. With a pink top, you'll stand out without feeling too over the top thanks to the neutral base.
