The MTV Video Music Awards, more affectionately known as the VMAs, has always been the fun, slightly--unhinged younger sister of all the awards shows. It doesn't take itself as seriously as the Oscars or the Emmys, and therefore, celebrities are more open to taking fashion risks when it comes to the red carpet (and acting out during the actual awards show itself). From Pam Anderson's iconic 1999 VMAs look with the pink fuzzy Ivy Supersonic hat to Britney Spear's 2001 boa constrictor ensemble, the VMAs have always delivered to us the pop culture (and style) moments that are copied, dissected and discussed until this day.

This year is no differenct. From Katseye showing up first in their matching Dolce & Gabbana looks to Doja's plaid dress and sky-high hair, keep scrolling for the best fashion moments of the 2025 MTV VMAs.

The global girl group coordinated in unique, distinct Dolce & Gabbana looks in black, pink, and silver. They each had their own fashion moments and displayed their own personal styles while keeping the same theme in mind: pop star chic.

Sombr

For his history-making night, Sombr wore a perfectly tailored Valentino suit. The sleeves and lapels featured detailed embroidery and the suit jacket featured a tasseled belt detail.

Tate McRae

Tate McCrae arrived in a custom dainty sheer lingerie-inspired Ludovic de Saint Sernin dress. And our pop princess's beauty trick to lay the perfect foundation? Neutrogena's Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes.

Doja Cat

In a pastel diamond-patterned Balmain mini dress with a plunging neckline and towering yellow platform heels, Doja Cat stunned beyond her red carpet look: she took a bite of her MAC lipstick.

Rebecca Black

Rebecca Black wasn't going to pick just one aesthetic for this special event—that likely wasn't even a thought that crossed her mind. She paired a structured, voluminous sheer lace skirt (save for an opaque panel in the center) with a furry gray halter top and furry heels. And, in a red carpet interview, she referred to herself as a "sexy centaur."

Zara Larsson

For her red carpet moment, Zara Larsson may have singlehandedly revived mermaid-core.

Lola Young

One thing about Lola Young is that her personal style will always be on display. For this ocassion, she combined vintage styles and details with statement-making accessories and white slouchy socks with black patent leather heels.

Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter coordinated with the carpet in a custom red Valentino naked dress with lace, embellished, sequined details. For an extra pop of color, a purple fuzzy shawl added an an old Hollywood element in true Sabrina fashion.

Ariana Grande

We will never stop reiterating this: the polka dot trend isn't going anywhere. Ariana Grande gave her stamp of approval on the trend in a black and white polka dot (with a pink and black polka dot peplum detail) Fendi dress.

Summer Walker

In a custom Howie B ensemble, Summer Walker gave a (not so subtle) nod to Pamela Anderson's iconic 1999 MTV VMAs look, oversized feather hat and all.

FKA Twigs

FKA Twigs bared her abs (as she should) in this avant-garde look: a deep red textured top and pants set. Her hair was her greatest accessory: braided headphones.

Latto

Latto used this opportunity to have a vintage archival designer moment, as all stars should. This 1994 Versace gown was metallic gold, textured, and featured an asymmetric strap.

Conan Gray

Conan Gray gave sailor chic in a navy and white and puffy shouldered dress with an oversized collar, high-low ruffled hem, and matching cap by indie LA-based designer Erik Charlotte. The look was paired with chunky white platforms to boot.

The Marías

We love when an entire band turns looks and has their individual style moments (like The Marìas did in this instance), but lead singer Maria Zardoya's cream sheer, black fur trimmed look (accessorized with black lace gloves) really stood out to us.

Tyla

Tyla used this red carpet as an opportunity to pay homage to a classic Chanel Spring/Summer 1993 RTW look while embracing the micro mini trend. And, as you all know, we love accessories here at Coveteur, where Tyla certainly did not disappoint.

Ice Spice

Noam Galai

Ice Spice looked like the ultimate cool girl in a vintage Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2003 dress with a strapless corset and patchwork maxi skirt. And notably, she swapped her orange hair for a pink updo.
