This Year's Met Gala Dress Code Has Been Announced
It challenges attendees to think outside the box.

As we bravely face a blizzard in New York City, news just broke that has anticipating spring even more: the 2026 Met Gala dress code. The Met Gala is one of fashion's biggest nights and it's always exciting too see how our favorite starts interpret the theme—or if they completely ignore the theme altogether. The dress code for the 2025 Met Gala? "Fashion Is Art", to align with the museum's "Costume Art" exhibition. The goal of the theme is to allow attendees to openly express their personal relationship with fashion and explore artistic representations of the dressed body throughout history. Essentially, we are collectively being asked to view fashion as art and "the critical role that fashion plays not only within art history but also within contemporary culture," Andrew Bolton, Curator in Charge at The Costume Institute said.
The co-chairs for the long awaited evening will be Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour, with Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz co-chairing the Gala Host Committee consisting of Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Alex Consani, Lena Dunham, Misty Copeland, and many more.

Last year, when the 2025 Met Gala's theme of "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" was announced, it was met with mixed reviews—and we don't expect this year to be much different. While this year's theme might seem a bit vague, there is arguably something exciting about guest's having the opportunity to interpret it for themselves—with the only exception, of course, that the looks must be worthy of being deemed "art." This has us excited, with full transparency, kicking our feet in anticipation, for all of the sculptural, bold, and avant-garde looks to come on the first Monday in May.
