The versatile formula we should all recreate.

There are few tried and true outfit formulas that combine styles and aesthetics as perfectly as this one that Kendall Jenner, our queen of minimalism, just put her spin on. The trench coat and baseball cap is the perfect balance between elevated and cool, resulting in a look that is both dressed up and dressed down. Kendall Jenner's latest interpretation of the look is a sign for all of us to recreate this formula this season.

On an afternoon out and about in New York City, Kendall Jenner and makeup artist Mary Phillips both put their personal spins on the tried and true fall outfit formula. Phillips opted for the cool-girl cropped trench, a black cap, and black jeans. For Kendall Jenner's interpretation, she paired a heavy black belted trench coat with slightly bootcut blue jeans, heeled black boots, and a faded blue Yankees cap.

Jenner isn't the first one to pair these two items and we're calling it a formula for a reason—Zoë Kravitz, for example, has been embracing this formula since 2022. On one occasion, she paired a plain logo-less navy cap with a black belt-less trench with green lapels, brown trousers, and chunky boots.

Just this past September, Zoey Deutch and Zhu Zhu turned to the formula: Deutch in a classic camel trench with a red sweater draped across her shoulders coordinating with the red lettering that read "Call Your Mom" on her black baseball cap at the San Sebastian International Film Festival and Zhu Zhu in a beige belted trench and red baseball cap for an airport look.

These two looks alone, and especially accompanied by Jenner's, Phillips', and Kravitz's, prove the versatility of this formula: trench coats of varying styles and lengths paired with caps of various colors for any event imaginable, from the airport to a film festival to a normal day strolling through New York.
