Extra and practical at the same time.

While winter often results in simple and practical dressing, it doesn't necessarily have to be that way. And if you're looking for a tried and true way of adding an element to your look that is both extra (in the most glamorous way possible) and capable of combatting cold weather, look no further than the fur stole.

Evolving from serving as symbol of royalty and projection of power in ancient Egypt and Rome, Miu Miu's Fall/Winter 2025-26 collection recently played a role in breathing new life into the accessory and presenting it as a garment fit for modern times. Whether that be worn draped around the neck, nonchalantly flung across a shoulder, or casually draped over an arm, Miu Miu and some of our favorite stars with taste that we trust have led us to this conclusion: the fur stole is winter's most luxe accessory, and an easy way of introducing texture and dimension to any look.

From symbolizing wealth and power in ancient Egypt and Rome, the fur stole became a highly coveted luxury item in Europe throughout the 17th century and, as the American fur trade started to boom, the accessory was popular in the United States by the 19th century.

We know and love the cyclical nature of trends—everything that was once popular in fashion will more likely than not reemerge. And now, according to both team Coveteur and a slew of celebrities, this is the fur stole's moment to shine—we are, after all, in a moment where maximal dressing is encouraged. On a night out in Aspen, Colorado, Kim Kardashian embraced texture maximalism in a taupe velvet corset, leather pants, a patchwork ankle length fur coat, and a fur stole wrapped around her shoulders.

For the 2026 Critic's Choice Awards on January 4th, Teyana Taylor completed a Saint Laurent menswear look with a black fur stole draped over her shoulders in a way that felt both purposeful and effortless. This textural addition made the look feel even more luxe, sophisticated, and glamorous.

More recently, Irina Shayk made a case for the fur stole as daytime wear that is meant to be seen. On an afternoon out in New York City, Shayk completed an all black leather look with a beige fur stole to keep her warm.
