All Hail The Winter Bimbo!

We're embracing the glamorous, ultra feminine, and angelic trend (fuzzy ear muffs optional).

We've already encouraged everyone to pull out their winter whites—now, we're taking it one step further. Allow me to (re)introduce you to winter bimbo style, characterized by a perfectly curated balance between cozy furs and impractical mini skirts, mostly in white. A glamorous, ultra feminine, and angelic look is the end goal and can be made cold weather-friendly with key accessories like fluffy earmuffs, leg warmers, furry headwear and chunky boots.

The word "bimbo" in and of itself has negative connotations of a ditzy and less than smart woman; the original aesthetic was referred to as "Slavic Bimbo," which originated post-Soviet to describe a hyper-feminine and hyper-sexual woman. In 2022, The Cut published an article titled The Reclamation of Bimbohood, in which writer Laura Pitcher discussed the resurgence of the term. From the concept that men are more intelligent and capable than women to Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and Lindsay Lohan making 2006 a "bimbo summit," Pitcher explains how a label once used to box women in as ditzy, dumb, and undeserving has been reclaimed, along with the concept that women can't be both smart and attractive.

If the term "bimbo" has been reclaimed and given a more positive connotation, the winter bimbo aesthetic is an extension and expression of that. It's about knowing how one might perceive you for dressing in a certain way in a certain temperature or what people might assume about you for presenting as hyper-feminine and doing it anyway. It's about wearing whatever you want and that in and of itself making a statement.

Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2012

Alexander McQueen's Fall/Winter 2011 and 2012 collections featured glimmers of the trend: fur leg warmers, fur shawls, fur trim, and a series of all-white looks reminiscent of fluffy snow for winter.

I would argue that no one does the winter bimbo like Blugirl. The house's Fall/Winter 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2012 collections were showcases of the winter bimbo aesthetic in a nutshell: fur boots, fluffy earmuffs, white mini skirts, and anything you would consider peak girlhood in the color white. The winter bimbo doesn't have to wear all-white: Blugirl also showcased the aesthetic in other color palettes, like pinks and pastels.

I'd like to think of 2026 as the year in which we all embrace joyful dressing and the winter bimbo aesthetic—a guidebook on looking glam, girly, and luxe in the most bitingly cold weather—is the perfect vehicle for that. Why not ditch our heavy layers and bare our legs, even when it's frigid outside? Why does intelligence mean covering up? This season, it's time we all embrace the winter bimbo, fuzzy ear muffs and all.
