As the change of seasons might fill some of you with the urge to switch up your look with a haircut, we figured you could use some expert-backed guidance before going into a salon with uncertainty or cutting your own bangs with paper scissors in your bathroom mirror. This fall, classic cuts remain trends but with modernized spins. Bobs are taking new shape, bangs are reaching new lengths, and curly and coily-haired folks are reminded that our hair isn't one-dimensional.

Bombshell Bangs

This fall, bangs are softening a bit. While blunt bangs will always be popular and we've all contemplated cutting micro-bangs at least once, we're turning towards bombshell bangs. "We’re going to see bangs that are softer and sexier. Think long bangs that open around the eyes and cheekbones, and blend into face-framing layers rather than feeling like separate, heavy bangs," celebrity hairstylist Chris Russell says. "My girls are ready for movement again. The Bombshell Bang gives you that change without sacrificing your length. It feels a little 90s, but styled much more effortlessly, which I think is more modern."

The Modern Supermodel Cut

We will forever keep our eyes peeled for fresh celebrity bobs, but we've also noticed a growing affinity for long, luscious, and voluminous hair. Perhaps the biggest trend this season is hair health. "I’m feeling a return to luscious, beautiful hair for fall. All my girlies have been on a hair-health journey all year, so they'll be ready for fall," Russell says. "I’m calling it the Modern Supermodel Cut: long, healthy-looking hair with a full perimeter, with long layers and a face frame to create alllll the movement. There’s a nostalgia for that 90s bombshell hair, but the 2026 version feels softer and healthier."

The Lob

When Hailey Bieber, Scarlett Johansson, and Ella Bright all embraced long bob cuts, we declared it the summer of the lob—but, perhaps, the trend is strong enough to follow us into the fall. "The lob will remain a key Autumn/Winter 2026 trend as consumers continue to favor effortless, low-maintenance haircuts that enhance natural texture and movement," Sharley Viola, textured hair specialist and Associate Director of Brand Marketing & Education at Curlsmith says. "Sitting between the collarbone and shoulders, the lob offers the perfect balance of versatility and style, while soft layers help create shape, bounce and volume, particularly on wavy and curly hair." Viola attributes this trend to a shift towards lived-in, natural-looking hair.

Wispy Bangs

Another versatile, low-maintenance lived-in hair trend we can expect to see everywhere is light and airy wispy bangs. "They create weightless movement around the face, offering a lighter, lower-maintenance alternative to curtain bangs," celebrity hairstylist Nick Stenson says. "They’re wispy toward the center and gradually lengthen out by the cheekbones to blend seamlessly with the rest of your hair. People still love bangs, but want to avoid the heavy upkeep of a blunt fringe. We’re seeing a major shift from heavy, structured shapes towards softer, more natural looks."

Viola adds that wispy bangs work for curly hair, too. "For curly-haired consumers in particular, they offer a softer alternative to a heavier fringe and can be easily adapted to suit a range of curl patterns," she says. "To achieve the look, ask your stylist for a lightweight fringe that blends into the surrounding layers rather than sitting as a separate, dense section."

Shaggy Curls

Shaggy cuts have been trending for some time, but Sharley Viola thinks we'll see a major influx of shaggy curls this fall. "Characterized by soft, layered shaping throughout the hair, this cut creates an effortless, lived-in look while enhancing curl definition, encouraging bounce and adding shape without appearing overly styled," Viola says. "As curly hair often requires more time and effort to style, the versatility and low-maintenance nature of a shag make it particularly appealing, delivering maximum impact while working with the hair's natural texture rather than requiring additional styling time."

The Boyfriend Bob

This season, we're trying to strike a balance between structured and intentional and effortless and undone—in both fashion and beauty. Enter the boyfriend bob, a flippy and feathery take on the short cut. "The bob is continuing to evolve in 2026, but the focus is shifting away from ultra-perfect, sleek versions toward cuts that feel more personal, effortless, and lived-in," celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos says. "The boyfriend bob is a fresh take on the classic bob. It's a softly structured, square bob that feels undone rather than overly polished. The shape is blunt and feathery, with a slightly flipped or side-swept finish that gives it that 'woke up like this' quality."

Love Layers

This season, the classic C-cut is all grown up. Now, it's all about long layers that frame the face in a heart shape. "The layers start just below the chin and continue through the ends, creating more volume and lift at the top while gradually becoming narrower toward the bottom. The result is a romantic, face-framing shape that adds movement while keeping the length," Giannetos says. This trend is reflective of people wanting to keep their length while achieving more movement, volume, and shape. "Love Layers give you that beautiful, bouncy effect while also creating an illusion of contour that makes the face look more structured. It feels romantic and glamorous, but still very wearable," Giannetos adds.

The Ripped Bob

For an edgy take on the classic short cut that we all know and love, turn to the ripped bob. "It's defined by an undone, textured flow with softly separated, piece-y ends," Stenson says. "Bobs aren’t going anywhere, but everyone is always looking for ways to incorporate more personality into their look. The ripped bob still gives that chic, tailored shape, but feels more modern and wearable day-to-day." To achieve this look, Stenson suggests asking for a jaw- or chin-length bob with subtle layering and textured ends.
