It was a colorful New York Fashion Week overall, but some runway color trends outperformed the rest. Today, we're focusing on a color that we've seen popping up consistently over the past year: on Greta Lee throughout her press tour last fall and on fall and spring 2026 runways alike. With appearances both in the form of minor details and dramatic textured gowns, it's safe to say that cobalt blue has evolved from what could've been a microtrend quickly forgotten to a full-fledged major trend with staying power.
Cobalt blue feels bold and electric, but sophisticated and chic at the same time. It feels expressive, warm, and optimistic in a world of beige and black. The best part of all? It works well throughout all seasons.
Whether through a bold cobalt blue statement jacket or a scarf that, albeit small, makes a statement all the same, consider this your sign to add a cobalt blue piece to your rotation.

TWP SS27 // Spotlight LaunchmetricsOn Proenza Schouler's runway, a cobalt blue dress with purple undertones stood out in a collection filled with bold animal prints, vibrant reds, and dashes of yellow. On TWP's runway, a case for both cobalt blue and monochrome looks was made with a matching pants and top set.
Sergio Hudson SS27 // Spotlight Launchmetrics
Simkhai SS27 // Spotlight LaunchmetricsSergio Hudson, known for his love of rich, lively colors and power dressing, sent a cobalt blue midi dress with a bodycon belt and matching bag and shoes, as well as a sheer knitted long-sleeved cobalt blue maxi dress down his Spring/Summer 2027 runway. Over at Simkhai, cobalt blue was more pared back but bold and unmistakable nonetheless.

Area SS27 // LaunchmetricsArea's Spring/Summer 2027 show was a bit of a cobalt blue parade—confetti and all. A full, voluminous gown and a tank top fit for the ultimate party girl made out of a cobalt blue shredded tinsel material, were both sent down the runway in looks that felt fun, whimsical, and bold.

Advisry SS27 // Spotlight LaunchmetricsFor the Diane Von Furstenberg show, a house known for embracing expressive colors, Henry Zankov paired a cobalt blue top with flowy purple trousers in one of my personal favorite color combinations of the season.
Calvin Klein SS27 // Spotlight Launchmetrics
Calvin Klein SS27 // Spotlight LaunchmetricsFor Calvin Klein's Spring/Summer 2027 collection, cobalt blue was a little bit more muted. Beyond the textured floor-length gown, the hue was also present in the details—a cobalt blue sash adding color to an otherwise black-and-white look, and serving as the perfect inspiration for those loyal to neutrals looking to tiptoe outside of their comfort zones.
