The Very Best Vintage Pieces from A Current Affair
BRB. We died and went to vintage heaven (and met Mara Hoffman, Elsa Hosk, and Lynn Yaeger in the process).
Have you ever walked into a store and thought, ‘I could live here forever,’? That’s how we felt after we entered vintage heaven this past weekend at A Current Affair, the vintage pop-up marketplace, which started in L.A. and now takes place in Industry City, Brooklyn every fall.
Featuring over 80 vendors from around the country, we could barely control ourselves (or our credit cards.) Neither could Lynn Yaeger, Elsa Hosk, Jenné Lombardo, and Danielle and Jodie Snyder of Dannijo, who were just a few familiar faces we spotted in Brooklyn this past weekend, scouring racks of vintage Valentino, Chanel, Comme des Garçons and Gucci (and really just about every designer ever) for that perfect one-of-a-kind statement piece.
It’s no surprise that every designer we ran into told us they use the vintage loot scored here as inspiration for their own work. From Mara Hoffman, who called us enablers for telling her to buy everything she tried on, to Alice+Olivia’s Stacey Bendet, who somehow managed to shop with one hand while pushing her baby stroller with the other (can she please teach us how to multitask?). Aside from being inspiring, vintage shopping is also exhausting (it’s a sport right?), especially with thousands of pieces to choose from. For advice, we chatted up pros like Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat and Aurora James of Brother Vellies. With enough insider tips for an eternity of vintage shopping and after watching models, editors, designers, and bloggers pick out the most incredible pieces, we finally got the courage to start the vintage treasure hunt for ourselves. In a moment of should-I-or-shouldn’t-I-get-this hesitation, a stranger (dressed in an incredible floor-length vintage kimono, no less) told us, “You’ll probably spend twenty years looking for that and you’ll never find it again, so just buy it.” Agreed. Get it or regret it is our new motto.
