Harley Viera Newton's NYFW Round-Up

The 5 beauty looks that mattered most (and how to DIY them at home).

Fashion Week
Harley Viera Newton's NYFW Round-Up

Take out those Smythson notebooks, kids: we're going to take you to school today. Or, more accurately, while you're procrastinating at your Macbook by clicking through Style.com today, we're going to school you on our five favorite hairstyles of the season—and exactly how to achieve them. We know, we know. We've basically entered sainthood.

Thanks in part to our backstage perch, where we carefully hovered over the shoulders of each show's backstage beauty squad, lets just say that we've been privvy to a whole lot of know-how and how-to. And so just in time for the (freakin') weekend, we've compiled each of the past five days' hairstyles: from Misha Nonoo's textured wave, Prabal Gurung's sporty pony and 3.1 Phillip Lim's knotty plait to Narciso Rodriguez's messy wave and Clover Canyon's glossy bang and messy bun. We figure that's just enough options to take you from making bad decisions on Friday night to hashing them out over brunch on Saturday morning, to getting in a little sweat session that afternoon, and doing the whole thing all over again through Sunday. Hairspray at the ready, set, go!

Day One: Misha Noono

The textured Wave

YOU WILL NEED...

- TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Mousse

- Blowdryer

- Flat brush

- TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Hairspray

- Tongs.

STEP 1

Start by parting the hair to one side and applying TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Mousse at the root, working it into the hair.

STEP 2

Firmly brush down on the roots and dry with a blow dryer to ensure the hair lays flat; spray with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Hairspray.

STEP 3

Take large sections of the hair and tong them vertically, starting at the front, ensuring to only wrap the hair once.

STEP 4

Run your hands through the hair, keeping the top section smooth.

STEP 5

Finish the look by tucking the hair on one side behind the ear and spray all over with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Hairspray. Et voila!

Day Two: Prabal Gurung

The Sporty Pony

YOU WILL NEED…

- TRESemmé Extra Firm Control Mousse
- Wide tooth comb
- Elastic
- TRESemmé Texture Style Velvet Crème
- Hair dryer.

STEP 1

Apply TRESemmé Extra Firm Control Mousse to the roots, section by section, ensuring full coverage by working upwards from the nape of the neck up to the part.

STEP 2

Comb through hair with a wide tooth comb to create some separation between the hair. Run your fingers through hair to accentuate the texture further. Leave mousse to dry naturally rather than use a hair dryer to give extra hold and add layers to the look.

STEP 3

Pull the hair back tightly from the sides of the head and down to create a low ponytail at the nape of the neck. Secure tightly with an elastic.

STEP 4

Smoothe a small amount of TRESemmé Texture Style Velvet Crème onto the tail of the ponytail and twist it into a loose knot. Blast with a hair dryer to achieve natural movement in the ends.

Day Three: 3.1 Phillip Lim

The Knotty Plait

YOU WILL NEED...

- TRESemmé Climate Control Mousse
- Hairdryer
- Soft bristle brush
- TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo
- Fine-tooth comb
- TRESemmé Climate Control Hair Spray
- Elastic
- Hair pins.

STEP 1

Prep the hair by applying TRESemmé Climate Control Mousse through the hairline and mid-lengths to add volume and give it hold without soaking the hair.

STEP 2

Rough dry with a hairdryer and then use a soft bristle brush to pull out and straighten the hair around the hairline.

STEP 3

Use TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo on the roots of the hair to create a matte and mouldable texture. Then, moving around the hairline, back comb fine sections of the lengths and lightly spray with TRESemmé Climate Control Hair Spray to define and hold.

STEP 4

Pull the hair into a ponytail at the crown of the head and secure with a hair tie. Divide the lengths into two sections and then knot (as you would your shoes laces), twice or three times depending on the length of the hair. Secure with pins and leave the ends to stick out for a punkier look.

STEP 5

Finally pull out strands around the sides and back of the hairline and finish with a spritz of TRESemmé Climate Control Hair Spray. Selfie time!

Day Four: Narciso Rodriguez

THE MESSY WAVE

YOU WILL NEED...

- A spray bottle filled with water
- TRESemmé Climate Protection Mousse
- A diffuser
- A curling iron
- TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray
- TRESemmé Salon Professional Flat Iron (coming soon!)
- TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Anti-Frizz Secret Crème
- TRESemmé Climate Protection Finishing Spray.

STEP 1

Start with freshly washed and dried hair. Using a spray bottle, wet hair down from mid-length to ends and distribute TRESemmé Climate Protection Mousse evenly throughout wet hair.

STEP 2

Divide hair into 2-3 loose braids and dry with a diffuser.

STEP 3

Undo braids and retouch ends using a medium to large curling iron to define the waves’ shape.

STEP 4

Spray TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray all over to prevent damage and use a ceramic-plated straighter, like TRESemmé Salon Professional Flat Iron, around the hairline to achieve a flattering wave.

STEP 5

Finish the look with TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Anti-Frizz Secret Crème.

STEP 6

If needed, mist with TRESemmé Climate Protection Finishing Spray for flexible hold.

Day Five: Clover Canyon

THE GLOSSY BANG & MESSY BUN

YOU WILL NEED...

- TRESemmé Thermal Creations Volumizing Mousse
- A hairdryer
- A comb
- An elastic
- Bobby pins
- TRESemmé Mega Firm Gel

STEP 1

Prep hair with TRESemmé Thermal Creations Volumizing Mousse and rough dry the lengths for texture.

STEP 2

Once dry, create an imperfect deep side part with a comb, leaving loose pieces framing the face.

STEP 3

Create another part from mid-ear to the crown to form two sections.

STEP 4

Gather the top section into a ponytail just below crown and fasten with elastic.

STEP 5

Take the remaining hair and create another ponytail at the back of the head, directly below the first.

STEP 6

Loosely wrap top ponytail into a bun, leaving ends out, and fasten with pins.

STEP 7

Twist bottom ponytail in the opposite direction, and secure with pins as well.

STEP 8

Paint TRESemmé Mega Firm Gel through front strands using a hair color brush, then use fingers to apply gel to the ends of each bun to complete the wet look.
