Anna Wintour's Vogue Exit & Balenciaga's Sporty New Collab

Welcome back to Fashion Bulletin, a weekly column where Coveteur's senior fashion editor, Ella O’Keeffe, recaps all the buzzy industry news you from the week.

Another week in the fashion industry, with the most surprising news being Anna Wintour's exit as editor-in-chief of Vogue after 37 years at the helm. Many of us thought we would never see the day when Wintour’s reign at Vogue came to a close, yet here we are.

But the famous figurehead isn’t done with Condé Nast, yet—Wintour will continue to oversee Vogue as global editorial director, with a new "head of editorial content" replacing her editor-in-chief title and reporting directly into her. The gradual ridding of the editor-in-chief title for the updated "head of editorial content" is a recent step in a years-long restructure that has rolled out across Vogue’s international editions, with all heads of editorial content reporting to Wintour.

As for her successor? There are plenty suitable for the job. Many people on the internet are calling for Marc Jacobs after he guest edited an issue last December—a sign of what the people want, but perhaps not the most suitable, given how much the designer has on his plate. Then there is someone like Eva Chen, who would make sense from a practical standpoint given her editorial prowess. Plenty of people would also like to see Chioma Nnadi, former Vogue.com editor and current head of editorial content at British Vogue, and the first Black woman to ever lead British Vogue. Ultimately, only Wintour knows what she's looking in a successor, so we'll just have to stay tuned.

Balenciaga Collaborates With Puma

Balenciaga

The Speedcat got the luxury stamp of approval after Balenciaga released a collaborative collection with the sportswear brand earlier this week. Demna’s ability to take a classic shape, beat it up a little, and put his own spin on things will always feel like a new way to realign with old ideas.

The Balenciaga | PUMA garments include technical sweatsuits crafted in extra-dry molleton, tracksuits in faded nylon incorporating archival PUMA detailing from the '90s, hoodies, T-shirts, and shorts.

Dior Gets A New Shoe Designer

Nina Christen, the Zurich-based footwear designer behind some of Loewe and Bottega Veneta’s most iconic shapes, has been tapped to join Jonathan Anderson at Dior as design director of shoes, pointing to an exciting shift in the accessories department of the French maison.

Will this mark the end of the J’Adior slingback? Since accessories is such a key product for Dior's success as a luxury ready-to-wear house, the move from Anderson to hire someone who possess such a contemporary lens will go a long way when reworking Dior's image. Since Maria Grazia Chiuri left the business in such a lucrative place, Anderson's only challenge will be keeping this momentum of growth, and it seems like he is arming himself with the team to do it.

Ganni Gets In On The Sneaker Game

Ganni

More footwear news! Ganni has released a new sneaker style, the 08 Sneaker, with a silhouette inspired by creative director Ditte Reffstrup’s teenage years playing soccer. If there was any time for a ‘90s sneaker shape revival from the Danish fashion brand, it’s now.

Gucci Gets Sweet With A New Marmont Campaign

Gucci

The first whispers of Demna’s presence at Gucci have officially dropped...with a Marmont bag campaign this week that shows Michele’s original shape take on a gelatinous new form. It’s clear from the jump that Demna has no intention of continuing Sabato De Sarno’s legacy, and will no doubt "Demna-fy" the Italian house in no time. There is no confirmation that his name is on this campaign, since he's yet to finish up at Balenciaga still during couture week. Still, this feels like a far cry from the tidy aesthetic De Sarno was pushing for the house.
