It doesn’t hurt that every neighborhood has what feels like its own distinct personality and vibe—something that you’re compelled to channel as you explore every previously undiscovered nook and cranny. In an ode to a few of our favorite stomping grounds, we’ve put together a series of city guides that celebrate them—as seen through the Tiffany & Co. lens.
Wear
The M.O. for dressing for a day in Chelsea? Whatever helps you fit in as you wander from gallery to gallery. We recommend artsy floral prints that can take you from daytime exploring to drinks at dusk, paired with unexpected footwear, a less-obvious It-bag, and a pair of shades that allows for ample people-watching.
Eat + Drink
Start your day with a leisurely brunch at Motel Morris. Come for the ‘gram-friendly motel-inspired decor, stay for the ricotta fritters and prosecco on tap. In the mood for something even more extra? Go big at Hotel McKittrick’s Gallow Green, where the weekend rooftop brunch buffet is the stuff of legends (just make sure to book a res in ahead of time). For midday drinks and snacks after an afternoon of culture-y things, try Hotel Americano’s rooftop pool, aptly named La Piscine, for incredible views of the city, a cool dip, coastal Mexican eats and ice cold cerveza. Finally, call it a night with dinner at Momofuku Nishi, the empire’s take on Italian (we’re suckers for their cacio e pepe).
Shop
It's fitting that the shopping spots in Chelsea are ones that walk the fine line between fashion and art—namely, the flagship Comme des Garçons boutique (worth a visit for the spaceship-like entrance and actual shopping experience alone), or boutique and ‘hood institution Jeffrey New York. In the mood to thumb through art books, zines and prints after an afternoon of gallery crawls? Try Printed Matter for the latest soon-to-be latest addition to your coffee table.
Do
As you may know by now, there’s no shortage of galleries and art shows to browse in the nabe. The Whitney, of course, is a must-stop and see (followed by a stroll along The High Line—tourist-y as it may seem, it undeniably feels like a breath of fresh air) along with art-world heavyweights like David Zwirner and Matthew Marks Gallery, or The Aperture Foundation, known for its incredible photo shows. Then, take all of the inspiration you’ve soaked in that day and head over to Valley NYC—one of the city’s first spots to offer custom nail art—and let their incredible team more or less recreate the contents of David Zwirner on your digits before you head off to drinks.
