Our Photo Producer Shares Her Self-Care Sunday Spa Routine

My number one reason Sunday is the best day of the week is it’s the most universally acceptable day to spend all to myself. I love sleeping in, enjoying a hot cup of tea, and, most important, listening to what my body wants and needs most as I prepare for the stressful Monday ahead.

Making time for self-care has always been important to me. Simply listening to my body and doing little things every day for myself transforms my mind-set. My Sunday spa routine not only benefits my skin and hair, but my overall sense of self. Taking the time to take a long, luxurious shower and apply a face mask or two alleviates stress and anxiety and reminds me that I am important and deserve respect. Bumble & bumble Invisible Oil Shampoo

I prefer taking long showers over long baths, and it is undoubtedly the best way to kick off a relaxing Sunday. I have naturally thick, frizzy, and wavy hair that tends to get oily faster than I would like. Bumble & bumble's shampoo and conditioner have been my go-to for a while, as it has helped tame down my frizz and leaves my hair feeling super smooth. Plus, it smells amazing.

Tangle Teezer Hair Brush

Because my hair is very thick, it is constantly tangled. If I’m being honest, I’m so used to it that I often forget to take five minutes to brush it. When I do remember, I love using this brush, as it is extremely lightweight and small. It’s perfect for traveling and taking around with me on the go, and gets out my knots and tangles without the tugging.

Bumble & bumble Surf Infusion Spray

After I wash and brush my hair, I follow up with this Bumble & bumble spray to hydrate and add texture simultaneously to my natural waves. I like to focus most on hydrating my ends, and if I want my hair to be a bit wavier, I twirl them around after applying.

CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser

I have been using this CeraVe cleanser ever since my dermatologist recommended it to me when I began having bad acne in high school. It is extremely gentle, has no scent, and helps get rid of my excess makeup. It is the perfect cleanser to prep and clean my skin before applying any additional masks or creams to my face.

Origins Out of Trouble Mask

This Origins mask is usually next up in my routine and has been my favorite for years. I use this mask whenever I feel my stress levels rising and a breakout coming. You only need to leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes, and the 3.4 oz. bottle lasts for a while. Its magic ingredient is sulfur, which helps sop up oil and shine and tightens your skin. I actually see the size of my blemishes shrink after using it!

Sun Potion Ashwagandha

While I wait for my mask to dry, I whip up a cup of hot ginger tea and mix in ashwagandha. Ashwagandha is an amazing adaptogen that helps with stress and anxiety and aids healthy digestion. I stopped drinking coffee two years ago and have never looked back. Drinking ginger tea with ashwagandha helps me feel calm, improves my mental focus, and it soothes my stomach. Plus, you only need a 1/2 teaspoon!

Honest Hazel Under Eye Gel Treatment

Once I wash off my face mask, I follow up with these Honest Hazel gel patches. They help reduce the puffiness under my eyes and leave me feeling refreshed and awake. They are a bit slippery and can fall down easily if you are moving around, so while I have them on I like to lie down and relax while catching up on new music.

CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion

Finally, I finish off my spa routine with this CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion. Similar to the cleanser, it is extremely gentle, non-irritating, and free of any smelly fragrances. My skin tends to be dry, especially during the winter, so I always make sure to moisturize heavily!
