Recently, we've been spending a lot of time writing about winter trends. The winter jackets we're shopping, the bags of the season to know, the accessories of the moment...but a winter look isn't complete without a good shoe, and this season, it's all about the shoe trends we saw on the Fall/Winter 2026 runways as we prep our cold weather wardrobes for the forthcoming season.

From socks and sandals at Prada and Chloé to the suede biker boots of our dreams, winter shoe trends this year straddle form and function, layering an evening shoe with a sock for extra warmth or dressing them up with python print, or utilizing thigh-high leather as a second skin to wear with long coats and skirts or a mini dress in the evening like at Stella McCartney Fall/Winter 2026. Ahead, these are the winter shoe trends you need to know this season.

Socks & Sandals

Prada FW26 // Spotlight Launchmetrics
Chloé FW26 // Spotlight Launchmetrics

Socks and sandals are eternally a hotly debated topic, and this season, both Miuccia Prada and Chemena Kamali decided to resurrect the debate and argue in favor of the dressed up sock and sandal combination at Prada and Chloé, respectively. For moments where an extra layer is favorable, we're on board!

Suede Biker Boots

Dior FW26 // Spotlight Launchmetrics
Ann Demeulemeester // Spotlight Launchmetrics

For Fall/Winter 2026, the runways offered a softer approach to the biker boot via supple brown suede at Dior and Ann Demeulemeester in particular, where Jonathan Anderson's Dior version was emblazoned with a gold "Dior" across the ankle strap, while at Ann Demeulemeester, Stefano Gallicci embellished the winter boots with silver studs and chains.

Sky High

Stella McCartney FW26 // Spotlight Launchmetrics
Chloe FW26 // Spotlight Launchmetrics

We'll always be fans of ultra-tall boots, and this season, we saw plenty of thigh-high examples that co-signed the trend. At Chloé, they were shearling lined and tucked into brightly colored jeans, while at Stella McCartney, tall heeled boots were worn with flippy mini dresses for an night-out effect .

Python Print

Isabel Marant FW26 // Spotlight Launchmetrics
Khaite FW26 // Spotlight Launchmetrics

Python print is the perfect way to add a little excitement into your accessories game, and for FW26, they were all over the runway—especially at Khaite, where python accessories were a mainstay for designer Catherine Holstein, as at Isabel Marant, where they were seen in pumps, ankle booties, and boots for Fall/Winter 2026.

Skin Tight

Toteme FW26 // Spotlight Launchmetrics
Altuzarra FW26 // Spotlight Launchmetrics

Skin-tight boots or sock boots come in and out of the trend cycle every few years, and this season they are back with an ultra-chic approach, worn almost as second-skin pieces and layered with long dresses and coats, as seen at Toteme and Altuzarra's FW26 shows this season.
