Valentino Garavani's Funeral & Lyas' Willy Chavaria Watch Party Surprise
And all the other fashion news you may have missed this week.
Welcome back to Fashion Bulletin, a weekly column where Coveteur's senior fashion editor, Ella O’Keeffe, recaps all the buzzy industry news you from the week.
This week has been delightfully filled with interesting menswear looks, which feels like a welcome distraction from the deep discomfort and fear many of us are experiencing in the US right now. While this is a fashion column, much of what we see on the runways and within the larger fashion landscape is directly affected by the socio-political climate. Glazing over what is taking place in Minnesota right now would be unjust. Wherever you are reading this from, I hope you are taking care of yourselves. Togetherness is the antidote to tyranny and fascism. Let’s be reminded of this as we enter the weekend.
Back to the runways. Jonathan Anderson served up a triumphant sophomore menswear collection for Dior this week, which was a highlight for many of us who just feel continuously delighted at this appointment. Anderson has adopted a fanbase this decade not unlike the meteoric rise of the Philophiles in 2016. What kind of quippy name can we come up with for Jonathan Anderson stans? Anderson’s Army? #Jonathanhive? This needs work…
Elsewhere, Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada put on a perfectly bitchy little Raf-heavy Fall/Winter 2026 menswear collection, with slender coats, scoop-neck knitwear, and fisherman rainhats that felt reminiscent of his Fall 2003 menswear collection for his namesake brand.
Also, Willy Chavarria pulled up in Paris this season for his FW26 collection and worked with fashion commentator and the people’s princess, Lyas, to open his show to his watch party attendees. Working with Lyas, Chavarria reserved 400 seats for Lyas’ guests—all bonafide fashion lovers—so they could witness the show in person. Just angelic!
Dior Names Taylor Russell Brand Ambassador
Dior
Speaking of Dior, Jonathan Anderson has successfully migrated all of his favorite Loewe friends into the Diorverse, with the announcement that Taylor Russell will be joining Greta Lee, Josh O’Connor and Drew Starkey ahead of his couture debut next week. Anderson’s relationship with Russell blossomed around the same time the designer began to work closely with Luca Guadagnino, who directed Russell in “Bones And All”, “Challengers” and “Queer,, the latter two of which Anderson did the costume design for.
Jacquemus Names First Ever Brand Ambassador
Jacquemus
Today, Simon Porte Jacquemus made the touching choice to announce his grandmother, Liline Jacquemus, as the first ever ambassador of his eponymous brand. His namesake label has always taken significant inspiration from his grandmother and her way of life. Honoring the women who raised him, Jacquemus pays homage to Liline and her legacy of being intertwined with the DNA of the brand.
Valentino Garavani Dies, Age 93
Splashnews
The week began with the devastating news that Valentino Garavani passed away at age 93 on Monday. Garavani was the last living namesake designer of his generation, touted as the “Last Emperor” for the empire he built on the back of 20th century glamour—a movement that he was largely responsible for. Today, his funeral was held in Rome, not far from the Spanish Steps which mark some of the House of Valentino’s most pivotal moments. The funeral was attended by the likes of current creative director Alessandro Michele, former creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, Tom Ford, Anne Hathaway, Donatella Versace, and more.
Balenciaga Releases Two New Bags Under Pierpaolo Piccioli
Balenciaga
Balenciaga
Yesterday, Balenciaga released two new bag silhouettes that first appeared on the runway at Pierpaolo Piccioli’s debut for the house last September. The Bolero Bowling Bag and the Le 7 Shoulder Bag offer two distinct, refined shapes as Balenciaga moves into its new era with Piccioli at the helm. The Bolero Bowling bag features a classic bowling bag shape with simple, structural top handles, while the Le 7 Shoulder Bag takes inspiration from the popular Rodeo Bag and is reflective of the versatile silhouettes that have become Balenciaga Couture codes. I saw both at the press preview back in November, and the Bowling Bag is in my cart.
Valentino And Vans Debuts Second Collection
Valentino
Alessandro Michele only wears Vans, so it makes sense why the Valentino Creative Director has partnered with Vans on a second collection. Featured in Michele’s Cruise 2026 collection, the new release offers six new styles all printed onto the classic Vans Slip-On. From a Valentino take on the classic check to cherry prints and tropical leaves, for everyone who has been saying that Vans signature checkerboard slip ons are coming back (me), here’s proof!
