Move Over Micro Mini, We’re Embracing Long Hemlines
Three ways to wear long skirts this fall.

Last winter, we braced ourselves as the micro mini skirt trend threatened to take over with viral offerings from Miu Miu and Diesel. While I’ll always love a micro mini moment, it equates 6-inch heels and lowrise jeans in my mind. It's anxiety-inducing to actually wear. (Case in point: you have to make peace with the inevitability that at some point a stranger will be blessed with a cheeky surprise.) Lucky for us, long skirts won the summer—no doubt in thanks to the Emma Chamberlain long skirt TikTok audio and the white maxi skirt trend. Here, we’ve compiled three different ways to keep the party going this autumn.

This outfit is perfect for transitional weather. The elements of warm-weather dressing, like the open-toed sandals, can be swapped out for cold-weather options such as thick socks and clogs as temperatures start to dip below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
Sweater + Tartan Skirt + Snake-print Boots

It was Audrey Horne from Twin Peaks that made me believe in the power of a long tartan skirt, but it’s this image of Adwoa Aboah that has me scouring my local thrift stores for one. A slim-heeled boot balances the oversized skirt and sweater, adding a bit of edge and banishing potential frumpiness.
Cargo Skirt + Blazer + Sneakers

This outfit might be a bit controversial, but technical clothing has been a high fashion mainstay for years now—Arc'teryx has a collaboration with Jil Sander for heaven's sake. Cargo pants have been having a moment, and now it’s time for the cargo skirt; it already has the Bella Hadid stamp of approval. Pair with a mesh shirt and blazer, head downtown, and count the minutes before a well-dressed Parsons student with a DSLR asks whether he can put you in his street style blog.
