The 4 Biggest Spring Bag Trends For 2025, According To A Celebrity Stylist
Not a micro-bag in sight.

New season, new handbag trends. In past years, my first instinct would be to reach for something bright and beachy, but after talking to celebrity stylist Georgina Downe, I’m realizing spring 2025 is all about taking a new, fresh approach. Yes, raffia and woven styles aren’t going anywhere, but we shouldn’t rule out a spring suede moment, either. Plus, I’m eyeing the roomy, bohemian styles that can transition from spring to summer with ease, while housing all the necessities (including your laptop). Plus, for the Jonathan Anderson-era Loewe lovers, there are plenty of quirky spring bag shapes to take you from the office to an after-work spritz.
Ahead, find the top spring handbag trends to keep on your radar — plus advice on how to wear them from a stylist.
1. Trend #1: The Oversized Clutch

When it comes to spring 2025, it’s time to start embracing bigger bags—and wearing them in unconventional ways, regardless of if they have a top handle or strap. “It started with the Bottega pouch bag a few years ago, and [now everyone’s obsessed with] the clutch version of the iconic Margaux bag by The Row,” Downe says.
Ferragamo’s Resort 2025 collection, under the helm of creative director Maximilian Davis, showcased jumbo-sized bags styled as large clutches, styled as an attached accessory to blouses and jackets. “Worn under the arm, it can seem like an unlikely or at least inconvenient trend to go through the spring season, but when done right, it will make dressing for summer so simple,” Downe says. The best way to style an oversized clutch is with a thin, silk maxi dress, strappy sandals and thick-framed sunnies for an Olsen-worthy look.
2. Trend #2: The Slouchy Silhouette

Functionality and practicality are at the forefront of many Spring/Summer 2025 collections, where designers like Bottega Veneta embraced larger-than-life styles, paired with a slouchy shape. Downe likes to think of this style as, “the cool girls’ laptop bag,” and predicts that we’ll see plenty of women wearing this silhouette in unexpected materials and colors for spring, like suedes and dark, earthy hues. “Think of a New York summer [outfit]—baggy low rise jeans, loafers and a tee,” she says. “It’s the perfect companion to pair it with.”
3. Trend #3: The Netted Bag

With the sudden fixation on the fisherman aesthetic, some designers like Albus Lumen are re-imagining spring handbags through the lens of a fishing excursion, showing a rather surreal idea of our go-to accessory. Long, lean and see-through, these netted designs definitely bring a freshwater vibe to the table, but Downe urges us to not take it literally. “[Refrain from] the obvious with this bag,” she suggests, reminding that the net bag can alternate between casual and dressy. “Don’t go beachy, but instead make it an unlikely pairing, which will bring the cool and effortless element to an outfit.” Think: linen trousers with a silky tank top or an elegant spring wedding guest dress to make a fashionable statement (without upstaging the bride).
4. Trend #4: The East-West Bag

While some runway bag trends exist more of a fantasy than reality (see: micro bags barely big enough to hold a lipstick, shell clutches that look more like art pieces), East-West shapes are fully practical for toting while living your actual life—which is why they’re only gaining in popularity for spring. For Downe, the craze comes to a pinnacle point with ALAÏA’s Le Teckel bag: “This bag is such a timeless shape and impeccably made, that even if you go with a more fun and unexpected colorway, you are still going to be grabbing it for seasons to come,” she says, To style it like a pro, Downe suggests that you opt for pop of color or, even better, a bold print, like leopard or zebra.
