“Although I had grown up wearing early streetwear, it wasn't until college—when I became a fashion editor for a magazine—that I started to study it, immerse myself in the culture, and set off on a career in the space. I'd fly to New York just to shop at Alife and Supreme. I lived in Japan, writing about local street culture and burgeoning brands of the moment like A Bathing Ape."

“In 1994, two years after I opened my room, Marina Rust, a writer for Vogue magazine, wrote a two page article on me. In the same issue, was an article on the launch of Kevyn Aucoin’s book. He put a big emphasis on eyebrows. Two pages later, there’s was the article; it was a beautiful, beautiful article. That was the break into eyebrow shaping and my business took off completely. After that article, every magazine started doing interviews. I think Allure magazine was the first magazine to write about beauty and then Vogue’s was an interview about my lifestyle and how many women are waiting to get their eyebrows done.”
