This Fall, Take Your House Slippers Outside

It's slipper season! Now that the temperature has dropped and we are shuffling about our homes in slippers, there are plenty of moments when we will wish we could wear them outside to yoga, to the grocery store, or to pick up a package. Whatever it may be, the comfort of a slipper is unmatched, and the Fall/Winter 2026 runways agree.

There were several examples on the runways earlier this year that tipped us off that it would be a big slipper fall, and now that we've arrived squarely in the midst of the season, nothing makes more sense than sliding on a closed-toe flat to nip to the bodega.

The concept is not new, but in the age of kitten heels, sock boots, ultra-pointy toes, a slipper is a welcome concept for lower-impact days, and it seems we're not the only ones who think so.

On Gucci's Fall/Winter 2026 runway, Demna reimagined the iconic shearling-lined horsebit slippers from Alessandro Michele's early era, sending them down the runway with slinky basketball shorts and lounge pants, while over at Conner Ives, a series of embroidered house shoes came down the runway. For Miuccia Prada, Miu Miu's Fall/Winter 2026 collection was a moment to experiment with a kind of house shoe, hiking shoe hybrid, combining a leather slip on with a bubble track sole reminiscent of the '90s collections, and over at Calvin Klein Collection, it was about the most simple polished leather slip ons for subdued occasions only.
