This week, while combing through new fall ’22 collections, New York-based Commission’s latest offering caught my attention. Though flashy sequins snaked their way through this season’s ensembles, designers Dylan Cao, Jin Kay, and Huy Luong managed to keep an air of sophisticated nonchalance throughout. The way in which they toned down the reflective material with neutral hues and stiff fabrications reminded me of one particular look from a prior Valentino collection I have yet to get out of my head despite its release date more than a year ago. Sequins also popped up amongst the street style brigade outside fashion week this season, where style aficionados found similar ways to balance the material.
Sequin Skirt + Neutral Layers + Cowboy Boots

Not many people would believe sequins and cowboy boots could coexist in one ensemble without any sense of tackiness, but Commission’s latest collection manages to do just that. To recreate the look, opt for luxe layers in a neutral hue on top, then allow for a party on the bottom with a sequin skirt and refined cowboy boots.
Sequin Kitten Heels + Blazer + Stirrup Leggings

At New York’s most recent fashion week, Caroline Grosso gave her sequined kitten heels a grown-up makeover with stirrup leggings and an oversized blazer. The chunky, patterned sweater perfectly balances all the components of the ensemble.
Sequin Top + Khaki Pants + Flats

Few cooler pairings have been made than that of a silver sequin top and stiff khaki pants, as exhibited in this Valentino look. To complete the look, add in pops of yellow and simple flats to keep some air of practicality.
