Getting Ready with Pam Hetlinger for a Night Out with Ralph Lauren
A night out in Los Angeles calls for some serious glamour. In collaboration with Ralph Lauren.
Her favorite piece in the new Ralph Lauren collections:
“The Ralph Lauren Collection jumpsuit that I tried on was pretty magical. It was a camel jumpsuit, long sleeve, really beautiful. It was styled with a thick Polo belt. It kind of gave me a ’70s vibe, but still modern. I loved it.”
On why she was excited to host the Ralph Lauren event:
“I’m super excited to host tonight because I’m an [admirer] of Ralph Lauren and it’s exciting that I’m going to be doing this with [Coveteur]. There’s a DJ and drinks, I’m inviting some friends and it’s going to be a really great night of checking out the new collection." And given that the event also featured custom fashion illustrations from Deanna First and a set from DJ Leslie Kirchoff—in addition to all our favorite pieces from Ralph Lauren Collection—it truly felt like a star-studded evening of shopping.

On what she loves most about Ralph Lauren:
“I love Ralph Lauren because it’s a classic brand that has remained relevant for so many years, and even though it’s very timeless, it’s still very chic and modern. When I think of Ralph Lauren, I think of an elegant woman who is chic, stylish, a boss lady, but can also have fun during the weekend and still look very elegant.”
Why she chose this outfit for the night:
“I actually had a poll on Instagram and asked people what they wanted me to wear. It was in between a jumpsuit and this, but I thought the pants were definitely a statement. I just love the fact that it has a little slit. It has interesting details but it’s not too much. It’s a simple look but it has a touch of the unexpected. Even though the pants are very much Ralph Lauren, I feel like it’s something that I’ve never seen before. I think they’re pretty special.
“The first top is very simple. This top has a bit of extra detail to it, the scarf collar detail. That’s the reason why I chose it, because it’s different and I love that you can wrap it around the neck. It’s a simple outfit still and a simple shirt but it has a little bit of an extra factor that I love. You can also style the pants different ways. You could even do a little tank top or a t-shirt [to dress it down]. It’s accessible, and even though they’re definitely investment pieces, you can wear them [multiple ways].”
On how she sets the getting-ready vibe:
“We’re listening to my favorite playlist; it’s called lounge soft house. More vibey, but on a Friday it’s more reggaeton like J Balvin. If I’m getting ready at home I always have a glass of wine, but if I’m having a 'party, party' night, I wait until I get there. My drink of choice is Casamigos on the rocks with a splash of lime. I’m still in a tequila phase.”

To prep her skin before a big night out:
“I use a lot of PCA skin-care products. It’s one of those brands that never breaks me out and it’s super gentle for my sensitive skin, but it’s still strong enough to make my skin feel really healthy. For years I tried to find a cleanser and it wasn’t until I tried that one that my skin was like okay that’s your cleaner. It makes your skin feel soft after you wash it. I alternate between their moisturizer, and one from La Mer.”
Her beauty must-haves before the event:
“I can do my makeup in about 15-20 minutes. If I know I’m doing it for an event, I can take 30 minutes just to make sure everything is okay in different lights. I love the Nars bronzer, concealer, and the Tom Ford highlighter. The E.L.F brow pencil is actually only $3 and the quality isn’t bad at all. I use the Kevyn Aucoin pencil liner on the upper water line and then a CHANEL eye pencil in a nude color on the waterline to open up my eyes.
“I always use the same shadow for under my lash line from the Pérsona Cosmetics Identity. It’s my friend’s company and I’m her biggest fan. Glossier Boy Brow in Brown is really great—same with the Bare Minerals powder. I use a rose water toner from Trader Joe’s to set everything. And I always wait to put on lipstick and mascara because it would be tragic to get it on my shirt. This is a blend of Laura Mercier lipstick called Beige in Time and Nars in Falbala. Then I always do a gloss. I like a glossy lip for the summer; it’s fun and easy.”
