Nicholas Aburn's Area Debut And Apple Martin's Self-Portrait Campaign

Plus, all the other fashion news you may have missed this week.

Nicholas Aburn's Area Debut And Apple Martin's Self-Portrait Campaign

Well!! We are on our second official day of New York Fashion Week, so naturally that is all most of our feeds are. So far the shows have been interesting. I’m looking forward to Calvin Klein Collection today and seeing how the silhouettes will evolve under Veronica Leoni’s direction, the first creative director of the Collection portion of the Calvin Klein beast since Raf Simons’ brief tenure six years ago. I attended Area this morning, where ex-Balenciaga Couture designer Nicholas Aburn debuted his first collection for the brand. It felt like good fun for a debut collection—very celebratory, hence the confetti-inspired mini dresses and bedazzled gowns that felt apt for a special birthday dress. Moments that spoke to Aburn’s time at Balenciaga peeked through with elevated streetwear and precise, yet oversized tailoring that was expertly cut. According to the show notes on the seats, it seemed to be somewhat of an ode to New York City party girls, complete with a poem that ended with the line, “What if the confetti never stops falling?” Poetic!

Speaking of party girls, Valentino Beauty reopened Studio 54 for one night only on Wednesday and it really was an insane party. To celebrate the debut of the Born in Roma 2025 Rendez-Vous Ivory Collection, the brand took over the iconic New York venue and pulled out all the stops. From the bar (which became a mess by 2 a.m.) to Cher’s appearance, Violet Chachki spinning from the ceiling, and The Dare DJing, the first unofficial night of fashion week had many of us waking up on the wrong side of the bed come Thursday morning. No one seemed to mind too much though.

Apple Martin Debuts A Self-Portrait Campaign

Self-Portrait

Elsewhere, new nepo baby news has dropped with a Self-Portrait campaign shot by and starring Apple Martin. Martin, who is the daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, has stayed relatively under-the-radar compared to some of her other nepo counterparts, having only attended Chanel’s Spring 2023 Couture show in the realm of fashion appearances. Here, she takes stylized selfies on her iPhone for the brand’s latest campaign, staying true to its lo-fi visual codes. I love Martin’s face, so hope to see more of her as she emerges into the industry.

Courrèges’ Unusual Fall Winter 2025 Campaign

Courrèges

Confetti emerges again for the French house’s Fall Winter 2025 campaign, which features a single image by Dan Colen of multicolored confetti. The image was taken from a book from creative director Nicolas Di Felice’s personal library, which acted as a starting point for the inspiration for the FW25 collection, representing the “contemporary and ephemeral moment”.

For the house's FW25 show in Paris earlier this year, models walked amid a snowstorm of falling confetti, which covered the venue floor as they exited in sharply cut mini dresses and trench coats.
