Although the phrase "back to school" doesn't really mean anything to me as a very much post-grad adult, it does symbolize the changing of seasons and the arrival of fall. Now that I've already started my yearly rewatches of both Gossip Girl and Gilmore Girls, I was already thinking I should stock up on plaid—and Mulberry's Spring/Summer 2027 show at London Fashion Week affirmed that I need to get on that, stat.
Filled with luxurious leather coats, croc-embossed bags, sleek lines, elevated minimalism, and perfect little cut-out details, Christopher Kane's debut Spring/Summer 2027 collection for Mulberry was inspired equally by nostalgia and British heritage—the latter making plaid's presence a welcomed addition.

A short-sleeved take on the same shirt was tucked into a brown leather mini skirt for a look that, without tights or a coat, feels perfect for spring, but that would be cold-weather appropriate with a few finishing touches.

Mulberry SS27 // Spotlight Launchmetrics Plaid was, of course, also present on the runway in the form of coats. The first was a transparent plaid-printed PVC trench coat for rainy days, and the second was a traditional single-breasted trench coat perfect for transitional dressing and those not quite cold but not quite hot days, regardless of the time of year.
Overall, this collection reminded us that plaid isn't a distinctly fall or winter pattern. Instead, plaid pieces such as trench coats and button-up tops should be invested in and styled for all seasons.
