In Paris, things were heating up in a very literal way during Men's Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027. The heat was wild, and what came with it was a series of shoes that matched the freaky energy of the week—proof that the freaky shoe trend is no longer just for the girls, but the boys are on board, too!

There has been plenty of discourse in the past couple of years about the freaky shoe-naissance of the womenswear world. We've had a moment with everything: flip flops, clear shoes, Vibram 5 fingers, Tabis and ballet flats—everything that we once deemed too ugly to possibly tap back into came around in the trend cycle faster than we could blink, but for the menswear collections, the footwear department stayed relatively tame. That is, until Spring/Summer 2027 came around.

The first hint that things would get fun in the shoe department was at Saint Laurent's men's Spring/Summer 2026 show, where models emerged wearing semi-transparent olive and brown toned PVC oxford dress shoes, exposing their steamy toes in the middle of one of the worst-recorded heatwaves France has ever seen. Then, came Dior, where Jonathan Anderson had previously offered up sweet little ballet flats for the boys, but this season leaned into more feminine interpretations of shoes, with glo-mesh mules and newspaper-print boots.

At Sacai, the ugly shoe came via a triple-buckled Birkenstock style silhouette with slouchy ribbed socks, while over at Dries Van Noten, the boys wore lace-up leather ballet flaps, strappy snakeskin sandals, and embellished flip flops—because boys can have fun with their footwear, too.

Closing out at Celine, it was all about the ultra-slutty, ultra-sexy strappy leather flip flop. For those who don't care to see men's feet, avert your eyes! The barely-there shoe felt surprisingly subversive on a male foot, as did the strappy leather sandals that followed, with a single toe strap to keep things secure. As I've been saying: It's a good year for foot fetishists.
