It was during my yearly rewatch of the iconic reality TV show Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and its equally iconic spin-off, The Hills, that I was reminded of one early-aughts and late-'00s styling trick we all need to master before fall: the twofer. Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari would layer one solid-colored tank top over another, while the boys, Brody Jenner, for example, would layer a short-sleeved T-shirt over a long-sleeved one for skater-inspired looks.
Then in July, Hailey Bieber's Gap campaign sealed the deal for me: in a world where vintage trends are resurfacing daily, the layered T-shirt trend is the most versatile, accessible, and fall-appropriate one of the moment.

Eckhaus Latta SS26 // Spotlight LaunchmetricsNaturally, we took a look back at Fall/Winter 2026 and Spring/Summer 2026 runways to confirm the trend's rise for this season. And we spotted it tons. On Lii's Fall/Winter 2026 runway, layers upon layers upon layers of tees and tanks were paired to create works of color-blocked art. On Eckhaus Latta's Spring/Summer 2026 runway, a tank top was layered over a short-sleeved tee, which was layered over a long-sleeved tee with the sleeves rolled up. The end result was a dynamic look that miraculously toed the line between intentional and effortless—the vibe that I am personally trying to curate every day.
And, as the final element that I needed to confidently call this a full-fledged trend, supermodel Gigi Hadid not only wore a twofer for a travel day, but she designed one for her brand, Guest In Residence.
We should all, minimalists and maximalists alike, take this as a sign: this fall is the season the layered T-shirt.
