If you’re looking for a consistent example of how to kill the coquette aesthetic, singer, songwriter, (and fashion icon!) Laufey is your girl—she truly never misses. Her jazz-inspired songs about love, relationships, and the trials and tribulations of girlhood often feel like the soundtrack of my life. And her style is, arguably, an extension of that: vintage, overtly feminine, and very sweet.

Before we get too ahead of ourselves, let’s agree on a definition of coquette. I think the coquette aesthetic embraces femininity in the most extreme of ways. All styles and details that would be considered ultra-girly—bows, ruffles, frills, lace, and the color pink, for example–are a way of reclaiming femininity and what it means to be a girl or woman. That’s what coquette is all about: being the most girly girl that you can possibly be, regardless of what that means about how you’re perceived.

Laufey has been throwing together the perfect coquette looks all spring and summer, so it's about time she got her flowers. Ahead of the release of her third studio album, "A Matter of Time"—where she sings about topics like friendship breakups, romantic hesitations, and nurturing the most vulnerable parts of ourselves—we're paying homage to our coquette queen

In the music video for her latest single, "Snow White," Laufey is amongst greenery and fluffy snow in a mini peasant-style shift dress with puffy shoulders, paired with black Hunter rainboots (which are arguably now appropriate for all climates, not just rain).

In an instagram video reminding followers of how important tomorrow is, Laufey embraces the concept of vintage lingerie as fashion. She wears a ‘50’s style mini dress in baby pink, with a high neckline, three quarter length sleeves, and crochet trim.

In May, as she lived out her (and also my) dream of partying at the Guggenheim in New York, where she combined all of the girly elements you can think of: a white lace dress, white lace tights, pointelle socks, cream sheer ruffled gloves, and silver heels with a gold detail. And in that moment, she was the most coquette version of herself.
