Welcome to Things I Finish, a franchise where Coveteur editors probe their favorite tastemakers about the things they buy, watch, listen to, and consume on repeat. First up: Coveteur’s EIC spotlights celebrity hairstylist, Lacy Redway.

There are very few names in the industry that every beauty editor knows, and Lacy Redway’s is one of them. The Jamaica-born, New York City-raised hairstylist is one of the most creative, influential hairstylists in the country—if you don’t know her yet, trust me, you’ve definitely seen her work. Lacy specializes in natural hair textures, creating sculptural works of art on clients like Tessa Thompson, Iman, Ayo Edebiri, and more. Unfortunately, I’m still thinking about the perfect, slightly-mussed, slightly-wet pixie-bob she created on Tyla for last year’s Met Gala—I say unfortunately, because it has tempted me to get a bob myself, but I know it will end badly for me because I have 1/1000th of Lacy’s skill. Another one of Lacy’s Met Gala looks that lives in my mind rent-free: the braided cowboy hat she created on Tessa Thompson in 2021. It was truly a jaw-dropping moment celebrating Black hair as art, and I think about it often.

Beyond the red carpet, Lacy is also a mainstay at New York Fashion Week, keying shows for designers for Christian Siriano (who can forget the pink ribbon “corset” braid?), Prabal Gurung, and more. Her energy backstage is unmatched—while other hairstylists can feel more serious or somber, Lacy is undeniably sunny, and always smiling. You know when you see that the show is keyed by Lacy Redway, she’s going to deliver a look—and keep you highly entertained as she tells you about it.

Did I mention that on top of all this, each time I see her, she’s dressed impeccably and always glowing? This Issey Miyake moment deserves all the flowers.

Naturally, Lacy was the first person I thought of to feature in the first installment of Coveteur’s new franchise, Things I Finish. I admit, selfishly, I’ve been wanting to know what products she’s been using, because she always smells amazing and looks flawless every time we run into each other. Less selfishly, I assume that knowing these things might benefit anyone who wants to smell good and look flawless, too.

Ahead, get to know Lacy Redway through the things she’s finished.
